Best Beach in PV?

We are on the Pride in June and are looking for a place to have a good lunch and do some swimming or other water activities (kayak, snorkel, etc.) We were thinking of La Jolla de Mismaloya but some of the reviews I've read recently say that the beach is gone due to a hurricane a couple of years ago. Has anyone been there recently? Or can you recommend a nice beach/hotel that accepts cruise guests? Thanks!!! :)

We just did the Las Caletas beach and snorkel tour through Celebrity, the operator is Vallarta Adventures last week. Las Caletas is at the far southern end of the bay - accessible only by boat - it was John Houston's vacation home

It was a great day - you get on the catamaran at the cruise dock - it was a beautiful cruise right along the coast of the bay. We've been to P.V. many times but have never seen it from the water.

We were on the afternoon trip so they opened the bar right away. The Las Caletas beach was incredible. We were guided to a table for two for a buffet lunch. It was pretty good, but we would have preferred Mexican food.

The snorkeling was pretty good for west coast and they had kayaks also - we gave them a try, but we didn't do too well :o

There were hammocks and beach chairs all over the place - it was one of the prettiest places we've ever been. The bars on shore were also open all day as was the bar on the boat for the trip back. (On the way back they make time straight across the bay to the ship)

I assume you want to strike out on your own vs. booking a ship excursion.

La Jolla de Mismaloya … what it is today - http://www.vallartaundiscovered.com/blog/Mismaloya/_archives/2005/9/25/1256532.html

It is reported that the following resorts welcome cruisers - Krystal (near the port), Westin (at the Marina) and Paradise Village (Nuevo Vallarta). All the beaches are available to the public. A good public beach with food/drink/bathroom support is Los Muertos Beach located on either side of the pier on this map - http://www.vallarta-info.com/south.html

Beach sand, where it exists, in the local Vallarta area is somewhat coarse when compared with most sand in the Carribean.

Enjoy!
