Rhapsody Arcade Question...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I did a search but couldn't find an answer to this...

Can anyone tell me if the arcade on the Rhapsody takes cash? I'm thinking it would be easier if I gave my son cash each day for the arcade so he'd know how much he has to spend there. But... if it's only by seapass, would he just swipe his card for each game played? $.50 charged or $1.00 charged for each game??? That might be a little tougher for him to keep track of! He will have a budget each day and I'd like to make it easy for him and, yeah, me too! :) Thanks!

I believe that the arcade only takes cash (from reading other posts). I can't imagine it taking a seapass, for parent's sake!

When I did a search I couldn't find anything about how you pay, (Rhapsody in particular) on this board. My other thought is they might use tokens, and then swipe the seapass for the amount of money in tokens, which would be o.k. too.....but I'm still thinking I'd like to give him cash for each day for the arcade and say, "when your money is done, so are you!"....I'd like it not to be tempting for him to go back with his seapass card and get more tokens.....not that I don't trust him, but I'm having this same talk with myself about the casino and my own personal budget before we go! :)

Well.I am trying to think about this.

On some ships, you do swipe your seapass..Actually,there is a loading station, you don't just swipe a blank seapass..And put a certain amount on it,then you use the seapass..When that amount is up,you have to reload.

I don't know if Rhapsody has been updated to that are not.Last we were on her in 04..You used some sort of change...I believe we bought tokens from a machine..

Very few games on Rhapsody, poor conditon (back then) and all arcades onboard all ships are very pricey.DH & DS (5) went through 40 bucks in about a half hour on Mariner...But at least they have a better choice !

Cat, well that's encouraging...NOT! :D I see what you mean (I think), they buy credits on their seapass?

I'm wondering about the teen room? Do they have gaming systems the teens like to hang out and use? Or at least, the die hard gamers like my son? I'm thinking that might save money!

I think I've read that the Rhapsody doesn't have a very good arcade. My son always travels with his gameboy SP or DX or whatever it is now, (I know they always cost ME a lot of money when buying them for him, but I do...I'm a ex-gamer/geek too!!!). He's 16 and truly is a gamer by nature. His friends don't even come around the house that much anymore as they all play an "online game" together now and because I don't have a computer for each of them...well, they stay home and socialize on their online game and they actually pay $20 a month to do so!!!!  Then they sit and talk on the phone for hours about what cool stuff they did!

When we were on,I don't think there were any other games in the teen area. The arcade is on like deck 10..On one side,is the AO area for the little kids,in the middle, and overlooking the pool area is the ping pong area, then on the other side is the arcade. You go through the Arcade to get to the teen area.My son is young,so did not spend anytime in there, just popped in to look..But the games in the Arcade are regular arcade like games..Shooting,hunting..The normal stuff..a dance machine, and a crappy air-hocky

But Rhapsody has had a refurb since I have been on her last..Maybe they have improved things..

On Mariner,in the AO area, they did have regular computers, the kids could also play games on..But I have never seen any X-box type stuff..

Mine is only 61/2 and he is just about dying for a GameBoy...or any of the other...I really had hoped I could hold off on this till like 10...But I don't know if I can hold out...:D

I was hoping they had PS2's or Xbox's, but he'll be o.k. without...he reads too! Thank goodness I taught him that, since I taught him all the computer/gaming evils too! He actually pulled out the book, "The Davinci Code" the other night as I was reading through Cruise Critic and was telling him he had to wait his turn...I was happy - I want to read that book too at some time! I'm glad he reads, I always read when I was a kid/teenager, and read to him since he was a baby!

Cat, about yours being 6 & 1/2...I would tell you to do it! Give him the PSP or Gameboy or whatever he wants! You've asked the wrong mom! :D I think technology benefits our kids...and it's fun! And they're all going to have to learn to "type"....I laugh at how many older people at my work still finger type...I MADE my son learn how to type correctly....(he still hates me for this!) but....he still draws stick men for people in his art work though! :D Art, for him, never happened.....:)

My kids have sailed twice on the Rhapsody. The arcade is located on the 10th deck/port side. You have to go through the arcade to get to the teen club. The kids club is on the port side, same deck. The arcade is coin/bill operated only. I am not sure how old your son is, but there are game systems in the kids club, which are free for the children to use whiloe the club is open. There are are wide variety of activities for all ages and alot of fun. Make sure that he goes to the meet and mingle for his age group. That is a great way to meet others his age. ;)

The arcade is coin/bill operated only.
Hate to disagree, but that is not correct. They operate using the bar-coded portion of the SeaPass, and $$$ must be loaded to the card via a kiosk in the arcade.
