Awful lot of money to spend to opese a 6yr old:rolleyes: LOL
GottaLuvCruising Posted May 17, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2006 Both Carnival and NCL have great children's programming. Both are newer, larger ships with lots of public space. One significant difference between the two lines is that NCL has Freestyle dining where meals are when and where you like. Carnival has traditional dining where you choose a set time (same table, same waiter) for your evening meals. Each of the two options has its own advantages. Other than that consideration, I'd choose based on the itinerary, costs and convenience (port of embarkation).
agabbymama Posted May 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2006 I've been reading alot about this on the boards, but while NCL calls it Freestyle dining, there are still set times for meals. Early seating for dinner was like 6:00. While you don't have an assigned table, you do have to wait until the dining room opens. The lines were terrible :( waiting for seating. Even the alternative dining areas had long lines. I much prefer knowing I have a seat at a table at a certain time.

Molly, I can't comment on the Norwegian Dawn but I can say that my daughter had a blast at Camp Carnival when she was your daughters age. In fact, we had to drag her away so that she would spend some time with us! It makes sense to narrow your cruise options down to ones that you would enjoy and then tailor it even further to make sure you child will also have a good time. I totally understand where you are coming from. I hope that you will get some good input on the Norwegian kids club. You have my vote for Carnival! :p My daughter, who is now 11, still looks forward to attending Camp Carnival when we cruise.
