Cunard is finally admitting to thoughts on QE2 retirement. Only a few months ago I believe that both Arison and Marlow said that there was no intention of retiring QE2.

Sea-Sea, I wouldn't get carried away - no direct quotes from Cunard - just speculation.....the first rumours of the QE2 being retired started in 1973........so time will tell......

I'm not sure how much stock I put in this report.

 

Note, it does not say who admitted to these "thoughts"! Just "Cunard", which could mean anyone from Peter Ratcliffe down to the window washer ;) !

 

I just read an interview of Carol Marlow today in which she unequivocally stated that there are currently no plans to retire QE2 and that she does not expect the upcoming SOLAS requirements in 2010 to be a problem.

 

Now, I am sure that if you asked her, "do you expect QE2 to remain in service forever", she would say no. But I believe Ms. Marlow and Mr. Arison when they say that there is no timeframe for retiring her. What Mr. Arison said was that she is profitable now and that as long as she stays that way, they'll keep her. I think that is a very fair answer and knowing Carnival, a very truthful one.

It also does not actually say they are thinking of retiring her, just that they are considering what to do when she does - I know several places (including Southampton) are (considering) starting campaigns to get her 'back' permenantly - it might be this 'they' were referring to:D
