is there other shopping areas besides the one at the port?

 

I seen people coming back to the ship from another area, besides the port area with their shopping....

Yes, you can shop downtown in Charlotte Amalie. There are many taxis that will take you there.

When you get off the ship in St. Thomas, there are many shuttle busses that will take you to Charlotte Amalie for $5.00 pp. These buses circle Main Street and the ocean drive constantly and will also return you to your ship.

Quick note: Those are taxis not buses. Taxi rates are standarized by the VI Taxi Commission. The rate within town limits (including WICO cruise ship dock) is $4 pp, ow. Its about a 6 minute drive between WICO dock/Havensight and downtown Charlotte Amalie in low/medium traffic.
