Kviolasr Posted May 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2006 Just returned from a western Carib. cruise (Navigator) and had an excellent time on the "Mountain-to-Sea" biking adventure booked directly through RCCL. Cost was $68 pp and duration was approx. 4 hours. The tour operator is Chukka Cove, looks like it is possible to book directly through them to save some $$. Not being that Jamaica savvy, I chose to book through RCCL. Tour consists of a 1/2 bus ride to and from the biking area, more than 2 hours of biking (mostly downhill), stop at Chukka Cove's swimming spot on the shore (if you are brave you can "cliff dive" here). There are stops on the biking part at a local elementary school and a small tavern (Red Stripe beer and biking go well together). Guides were awesome, this was a well-structured excursion. There are some steep downhill areas that require some caution but you are outfitted with helmet/knee/elbow guards. I highly recommend the tour. jtmalt Posted June 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2006 That sounds interesting. Two questions...what type of bikes do they use, and how are the trails...very rough or graded? We bike a lot, but usually on paved rural roads.
Kviolasr Posted June 12, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted June 12, 2006 Don't recall the actual brand of bikes but they were real mountain bikes with shock absorbers in front forks. Most were in decent shape and they brought several extras in the truck that follows behind the pack. As for the biking terrain conditions, almost all of the biking was on paved roads. That being said, these roads were loaded with washout areas and pot holes. You had to be careful to manuever around this stuff while biking at a pretty fast downhill speed. We did have one rider wipe out in a pot hole but no injuries because of safety gear (elbow and knee guards, helmet). We are not experienced mountain bikers and did fine. If you are experienced, even easier.
