anyone ever get stung at stingray city?

There was a kid that was stung about a year ago. It's very rare...at least rare enough that you don't read about it here. I'm not sure the stingray's away from stingray city are quite as tame...but I could be wrong.

It also freaked me out the first time, but stingray city is really something you need to see. It's an awesome experience. They really don't "sit" on the bottom of the ocean...they flutter around you looking for food, and if you don't feed them, they are off looking for food from someone else. :)

I asked a guide on our stingray tour back in 2000 if he would handle the stingrays if he was somewhere else, and he replied that he wouldn't.

I have really learned a lot about the stingrays just from reading this forum and we're really looking forward to seeing them again next month.

BTW, that is a great link Starz723, thanks for posting it.

That's interesting to know. I know I would go near one away from Stingray City. I know before our first trip there, I had no real idea what to expect. I knew it was going to be something like we've never experienced before...and it was.

That is a great link. Interesting information about sintgray's.

we love stingray city!! they dont lie on the bottom here like most beaches..they see u coming and here they come!!! FOOD!!! they know the boats have squid for them.. my dh is not a water person but every time we go to gr cayman...stingray city!! the water is about the clearest i have ever seen and the sandy bottom is white...beautiful, one of our favorite places to go!! and it is only 3-4 ft deep.

Would you mind sharing recommendations on who is the best, and the worst (so we'll avoid them!) for booking the stingray city tour through? Thanks in advance.....we definitely want to do this and I better get on the ball and get it booked!!!!

We booked through Nativeway after reading posts about other tours. They were wonderful!! Two boats went out, each with only 25 people at most on board. Personal attention, fun interaction with the guides. We saw other tour boats unloading what looked like hundreds off the boat - ugh! We were very happy with them, and although we ran a little later than expected, they did their best to get us to the dock in time.
