nancyrg Posted June 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2006 The evening before each port there was a talk about the port with the cruise host. They also had a small map/info sheet about each port that you could take with you.
luvnorway Posted June 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2006 How helpful the information given in the presentation is varies depending on who the host is. Having just spent 3 wks on Wind Surf in the Med, (and 4 weeks last year), I can assure you that, if you are lucky enough to be on with Walt and Cheri, their familiarity with all of the ports is excellent and they are very willing to share what they know and try to find out anything they don't know for certain (eg. train schedules). They are the best port lecturers (although their job is much more than that) we have ever encountered. OTOH, I found Jean-Michel to be a bit difficult to understand at times and very prone to trying to make sightseeing on your own sound as difficult as possible. He also was obviously not as knowledgeable about some of the ports.

In addition to the nightly port talk, WIND SURF gives out a sheet (or sometimes two sheets) on each port, including a photocopy of a map. I like to buy my own maps, though, because a map that costs a few euros at a souvenir shop will have better detail, cover a large area, and be easier to read than a black-and-white Xerox copy on 8-1/2 x 11 paper. Local port maps also make nice souvenirs.
Lair Bear Posted July 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2006 For free maps, go to the Mitchelin map site: http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/dyn/controller/Maps Just click on the map of Europe and you can zoom in as close as you like.
