Food On The Dawn

Just got back to the UK this morning from New York, and must say that we have had a lovely time on the Bermuda/Nassau cruise.

I was very hesitant by what I had read before I left, regarding the quality of the food on the Dawn, and all I can say to anyone who is going on this ship is "don't worry, the food is fine". I could find complaints about certain aspects of the food if I decided to sit down and really look for fault, but I could do that with every place that I have eaten in and to be honest with you, I would rather put my energy into something more important.

Personally I preferred the restaurants to the buffet, but that is only my opinion, one that I have for every cruise that I have been on.

If you are to take this cruise, enjoy yourself, that is what cruising is all about. Tonight I will miss opening the patio door and falling asleep to the noise of the ocean........heaven !!!!!!!!

:D Hi Mikeyandy,

We were on the Galaxy with you guys last August! How have you been? What a small world. We are going on the Dawn on June 24th. I am glad to see that you are still posting on the boards and of course, still cruising!

I am happy to see that you found the food on the Dawn to be acceptable. I can't wait to try the fish and chips in the Blue Lagoon! I assume you had a balcony cabin. How was the accommodations? My husband and kids have two connecting balcony cabins on deck 9. We are looking forward to having two cabins instead of just one!

What did you do in Bermuda and Nassau? With so little time in Nassau, I am still unsure of how to best use the time. I would appreciate your insights.

Did you have a chance to spend any time in NYC before or after the cruise? Our commute to the ship will be alot shorter than last year. We live about 90 miles from NYC. We plan on driving up that Saturday morning and parking at the pier. What time did you get to the ship for embarkation? Was there a long wait?

Thanks for all your insights and advice. I appreciate it! Take care.

Kathy

Thanks for sharing your recent experience. We were on the Spirit in February and found that the food was quite good to great. NCL has done a fine job in the restaurant department.

Hi Kathy

Lovely to hear from you and yes, what a small world it is.

We too had a cabin on the 9th deck and it was really lovely - we saw some of the cabins that were doubles and it seems that they open the partitions in between so that people can be together on the balcony. Our cabin had an adjoining door, but obviously it was locked as we didn't know the people next door.

The accommodation was more than satisfactory, and it was a joy to return to the cabin every day and find that the bed had been made/cabin cleaned etc.

In bermuda we took the number 7 bus down to Hamilton (about 40 minutes) and had a walk around for a couple of hours. It is a really quaint town, very colloquial (excuse spelling), and then returned by ferry to Kings Wharf. Return fare was 8 dollars per person, tickets bought at the bus terminal.

We didn't get off the ship in Nassau as it didn't arrive until about 6pm on the Wenesday and left at 11am the next morning. Most people who did get off went to Atlantis but I didn't hear that much about it except that it had a huge casino. We enjoyed the ship being a bit quieter. The next morning some people went on excursions really early, I sunbathed. I think that the Nassau visit is a new itinerary, and personally I don't think that there is much time to do anything significant. In hindsight I could have got off just for a walk if nothing else, but at the time felt happy to stay on board.

Hope that this answers some of your questions, if you have more just let me know.

Glad that you will have your car in NYC - we waited for over 2 hours for a cab yesterday (at the pier) - could have walked to Times Square quicker!!!

Regards,

Michael and Andrew
