Grand Turk or Half Moon Cay- any snorkeling recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hello all you snorkel buffs,

My family and I want to snorkel. Do you recommend any companies

on the island or stick with the company sponsored excursions? Do they

really pack in the crowds on the boats, or is a pretty laid back

excursion? Do you see any great fish on Grand Turk (I believe

I have read mixed reviews on the snorkeling here). What about

snorkeling from shore in either place (?Governor's beach ).

Any and all replies are appreciated. Thank you in advance.:)

Well, since Half Moon Cay is Holland American's private port of call, you don't have much choice if you want to do a snorkel excursion. You have to go thru the ship, there is no other choice. Of course, you can always snorkel from shore there for free.

I don't know about the snorkeling on Grand Turk, but I do know that before Carnival built the cruise ship dock there, just about the only people who went to GT were scuba divers because the diving there is supposed to be excellent. That is the number one reason I picked our next cruise, for the stop in GT. If you want better snorkeling, I'd suggest doing a boat snorkeling trip with a private operator.
