ladikara Posted June 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2006 I'm headed to the caribbean in December. We are stopping in Montego Bay, Jamaica....Cayman Islands, and Cozumel. Which place is the best to snorkel? Where should we go at which stop? Any places to avoid? Any help would be great!
bruce-r Posted June 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2006 I'm headed to the caribbean in December. We are stopping in Montego Bay, Jamaica....Cayman Islands, and Cozumel. Which place is the best to snorkel? Where should we go at which stop? Grand Cayman probably has the better snorkeling this year. You can easily walk to the free snorkel/dive site Eden Rock in Georgetown. Cozumel used to have excellent snorkeling before wilma, not it is merely "good", and only if you do a boat snorkel tour. The shallow, near shore snorkel sites are still a bit "scoured". Any places to avoid? Yes, Jamaica.
sportsterjohn Posted June 14, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2006 In Jamaica you should probably do a group tour. It is pretty unsafe to venture out on your own. The guided tours are safe. GC and Coz both have very clear warm water. As the above poster mentioned though, the hurricane did alot of reef damage in Coz and the shallow reefs are not in good shape compared to last year. However if you have not been snorkeling in the carribean before you should still be 'wowed'
