Wasted money on travel insurance.

Both my wife and I have some health issues, luckily not major yet, and are both seniors. As noted several times above, Medicare does not cover us outside the continental US.

I think the peace of mind is worth the expense - we always get travel insurance.

We haven't needed it yet - but the time may come!

My husband and I were both in perfect health and never bought the insurance. A week and a half before our b/b 10 days on the Galaxy he had a heart attack. After the hospital stay he was sent home to rest for a month and scheduled for a quintuple bypass. He was feeling great and he decided he wanted to take the first ten days with advice from his doctor. I have never been so miserable. We had two medivacs on that cruise and I swore never again. We hadn't purchased insurance for the cruise and obviously it was too late at that point.

The theory of "we have never bought insurance or needed it and have paid for a cruise with the savings doesn't hold up". All it takes is one unforseen major event and it can wipe out your savings so it's not about the price of a cruise. That extra $100 or so is worth every penny for the peace of mind. It would be bad enough to have to go thru the experience but then to have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars for the experience is not something we would ever risk again. That insurance is also peace of mind for an emergency at home while we are on a cruise. A small price to pay.

I should add that I called Celebrity to cancel the cruises and they said that they were sorry but it was too late for a refund. I cancelled both of them. Then, when we decided to go on the first one, I didn't even notify them since my reasoning was we were paying for the cabin and had our docs so it was our cabin. Not brilliant in theory but we got our cabin and a credit for 1/2 of the next cruise. I have no idea why they gave us the credit for the second cruise but we booked the same cruise again in Feburary and they got their money back in the Casino.
