annfi Posted June 20, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2006 Curious what all you one way cruisers do when you cruise Boston to Montreal and want to spend some days travelling around after the cruise. I realize there is the bus transfer (HAL) but we have 6 more days and wanted to see more of Eastern Canada and eventually end up in Manchester, NH to catch flight home. Anybody have recent experience renting a car? Is it outrageously expensive? Thanks for any suggestions.
TJM001 Posted June 21, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2006 The cost of renting a car in Canada would be pretty much on a par with renting in an American city of a comparable size. The price varies with the company and with the type of car you wish to rent. However, renting a car in Canada for drop-off in the USA would be something else altogether because the company would have to find a way to get the car back. I suggest you contact any of the big rental firms (they all have offices in Canada) to see what they might have to offer.
grannynurse Posted July 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2006 The drop off fees were what made us decide to sail from Montreal. We got off in Boston, spent several days there and in NH and flew home from manchester. It's a very convenient traveler-friendly airport. We loved our time in the White Mountains last summer, stayed in North Conway and drove to the summit of Mt. Washington. It was a great trip. The Maasdam is a great ship. My husband likes it best of all the HAL ships we've been on. GN
