Glorybound Posted June 30, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2004 I just booked a cruise on the Carnival Glory for 9/25/04. Can anyone tell me what this ship is like. the good the bad the ugly! I have only cruised on the Ecstacy but that was back in 92. I appreciate any information you all can provide!
Gumby&Pokey Posted June 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2004 we were on the glory in oct, she is a big beautiful ship, we though the food was great, they have a supper club which is 25$ per person but was great. the food in the dinning room was great and also the food at the buffet was good, they have so much variety you will not go hungry the whole week. it is a very big ship so it takes a few days to get use to it, some people have complained because the food galley is in the center of the ship, it has a choped up feel, on some decks you cant walk the whole distance of the ship, you have to go up or down stairs, it did not bother us, it has a big casino, the only complaint it was very somkey, we had a lot of fun and would go on the glory again:D
Glorybound Posted June 30, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Thanks Gumby and Pokey. I have heard the ship was somewhat chopped up and I also heard that the smoke was a problem. What about the pool area. Were their seats to be had. did you see a lot of seat saving?
woodman Posted June 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Sailed the Glory in May. Great Great ship. No chopped up feeling here, it adds to the adventure. Food everywhere. All good. Don't miss the supper club. Outstanding. Plenty of room around the pools, loved the one in the rear of the ship (aft portion). Right by the pizza stand and cold beer bar and ice cream dispenser.LOL As for the smoke, we are non smokers and could smell the smoke but found it acceptable. No worse then any other cruise ship. The personel on board were wonderful. Great attitudes all over the ship. Would sail her again in a minute.Or just as soon as I save enough cash to pay for another cruise on the Glory. LOL Happy cruising.

Gumby&Pokey Posted June 30, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2004 my wife did the massage and i believe it was around 150 dollars, we never had any trouble getting seats by the pool, the back pool was great right next to the bar and the pizza and grill:D

dbauknight Posted July 1, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 1, 2004 It’s funny how people are just now noticing how the ship is chopped up. It’s the same layout as Destiny Class. (Destiny, Triumph, Victory) Conquest class, including the Glory, is about 50 feet longer, and has some small configuration changes. (Additional rooms, Children’s World expanded, additional bars and entertainment.) The problem is with a dinning room in the middle of the ship, Golden Restaurant, located on Lobby and Atlantic decks. Only the lobby deck however is totally blocked with the ships Galley between the two dining rooms. Atlantic Deck has common areas between the two dining rooms. The remaining 7 decks of the ship have a clear shot from one end to the other. I’m guessing the food is so good on the Glory, and people are eating so much that they are having trouble walking up one or two flights of stairs after dinner. :o

Rock712 Posted July 3, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 3, 2004 We just got back from a week on the Glory and we absolutely loved it. It was our first cruise , so I quess I really dont have anything to compare as far as how this ship rates along side of others , but it was a great first expierience. We had an 8A balcony ( 8372 ) and our room steward did a great job of keeping everything in order We did the late seating in the Platinum dining room and ate there every evening of the cruise. Like any restaurant you go to on a regular basis , some nights were better than others , but overall the food was very good , the selctions every nite plentiful , and our servers ( Ivan and Hania ) took good care of us. There was a wide range of activities and entertainment every day/nite. Something for everyone. You can do as much or as little as you like every day. As far as the ship being " chopped up " or hard to navigate , I really didnt have any problems. Like any time your in a new place , it takes you a day or so to find your way around , but once you get your bearings its not difficult at all. For example , our room was on deck 8 , which ran the entire length of the ship. So , depending on where we wanted to go we just walked the length of the ship in our corridor to the appropriate bank of elevators. All things considered , we really enjoyed our stay on the Glory and are already planning a return trip next year !!!!

funkeruski Posted July 5, 2004 #14 Share Posted July 5, 2004 I just got back from a week on the Glory and it sucked. This was my second cruise...first was with Royal Caribbean on the Explorer. The Explorer was so much nicer than the Glory. The bars/lounges on the Glory are terrible..the music was also horrible. Lots of hip-hop crap but not much else. We stayed in room 6400 and the music from the disco rattled our room nightly until 3 am. If you are anywhere around 6400, you may want to see about moving. I complained and was given a voucher for 15% off my next cruise with Carnival...yeah right. That voucher is going to be sent back to their corporate office. The service on the boat was horrible. The staff could use a little brushing up on their english skills. Dinner waiter had body odor nightly. The food was pretty bad. You'd get better scrambled eggs in prison!! I suggest the hamburger grill on deck 9...they were pretty good. The supper club was also very good, so do that. I also did not like the "chopped up" feel of the ship. Too damn hard to get from one place to another. If you've already booked, claim a death in the family, you had both your legs amputated, you have an inoperable brain tumor and have two weeks to live and book another cruise line
tootiesmom Posted July 5, 2004 #15 Share Posted July 5, 2004 funkeruski, why didn't you take the guarantee offer from Carnival....if you are not satisfied with the cruise, let them know at the 1st port of call and you could get off there and I think get your money back... From the details you listed about your cruise, looks like the guarantee was made just for trips like this. tootiesmom :)
cougar242 Posted July 5, 2004 #16 Share Posted July 5, 2004 My Husband And I Were On The Glory Back In May And We Had A Great Time. We Met Some Nice People And Don't Have Too Many Complaints. The Only One We Really Had Was That If A Bar Ran Out Of A Certain Type Of Beer The Would Just Say The Ship Was Out. Or They Would Choose Which Other Type Of Beer To Bring You And Charge Your Card For It. We Would Go To Another Club And They Would Have It. We Always Found A Lounge Chair By The Pool. We Had An Aft Balcony Cabin And It Was Great. Their Balconies Are Not As Private As Others I Have Been On But No Complaints.
funkeruski Posted July 5, 2004 #17 Share Posted July 5, 2004 Tootsie..I wasn't aware of that guarantee. In addition, the many of my complaints were not realized until after our first stop at Nassau the day after our departure from Port Canveral. I wasn't going to get off the ship and ask for a refund after one night of music noise on the ship. Anyway, I've learned a couple of lessons. One, I really need to research the stateroom locations on our next cruise. Two, I won't sail on Carnival ever again.

Devoli Posted July 20, 2004 #23 Share Posted July 20, 2004 Thanks cruiseclues for the great pictures. I have sailed only the Fantasy class ships and these pics give me a good idea that this ship is MUCH bigger. Did you ever feel crowded around the pool? It seems packed. We are sailing the Glory July '05 and really looking forward to it. BY the pictures, it will be an experience.
