Menus on the QE2 World Cruise

GM & PM

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. My wife and I will be celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary on the Polynesian Passage segment of the QE2 World cruise in January, 2007. We are wondering how often the menus vary during this cruise. Does the menu feature local dishes at each port call? We will be dining in the Mauritania restaurant unless we are fortunate enough to receive an upgrade.

Even on a world cruise no two menus are supposed to be the same. Menus for lunch and dinner are individually prepared and printed every day.

While there might not be a local dish at every single port of call, the chefs include dishes local to the area sailed in.

For interesting, yet a few years old, reading see

http://www.onboard-online.com/new_site/backissues/2001/lesman.htm

and

where it says

"In addition to the challenges of provisioning with the highest quality fresh fruits, vegetables and fish available in many different worldwide destinations, it is also important to offer variety, says Duffy. To not repeat a meal during the 107 days, Cunard introduces a more extensive menu cycle. Special attention is paid to providing specialty food items reflecting the flair and flavours of the ports visited."

During the World Cruise in 2006, the entire menu was not repeated. Granted, certain items are repeated, but as a whole, each day offers a new menu.

There are several dinners that will be "themed" such as Oriental Dinner, French Dinner, Robert Burns Night Dinner, Italian Dinner, etc.

There were offerings of "local" fish and oysters and fruits (we were in the Queen's Grill). The evening we left New York, New York Cheesecake was on the menu.

The menu will generally include a pasta dish, seafood, beef and a vegetarian choice. Desserts always included a sorbet, ice cream and frozen yogurt as well as an international cheese presentation. We found the souffles to be excellent and the chocolate sauce "to die for".

During the full world cruise, we found that there was a limited offering of chicken.

The luncheon menu also has a wide variety of choices!

You won't go to bed hungry!!!

I will be traveling the complete World Cruise on the QM2, and I will let you know if the menus are repeated.

I hope the entertainment changes from its 2 week rotation, otherwise I will go batty seeing the same things over and over again.

When we had dinner at the Captain's table on the 3 Jan Panama trip this year, Commodore Warwick noted the fabulosly designed dessert, and commented that in all of the Captain's dinners he had hosted, not ONCE had they had the same dessert twice!

He was most delighted with the designs they did!

Karie,

who was most delighted with being asked to dine with the Commodore and his lovely and vivacious wife, Kim!

Perhaps that's the trick! To get you to go to the casinos and spend more money instead!

Karie, who needn't worry about seeing repeats for 60 days. At least not in this lifetime!

I would like to thank everyone who replied to my post. I suppose we will have to adhere to a rigid exercise regimen while onboard to burn off all those extra calories. Only 207 days to go….not that we are counting :)
