Dinner in Santorini

Recommended Posts

We're in Santorini for a full day, departing at 11pm. As it's the only port we'll be in so late, we were thinking about treating ourselves to a nice dinner in town before heading back to the ship but are a little nervous about getting back in time. Has anyone done this before? Was there plenty of time? And, do you have any recommendations for a good place to eat? Thanks!

We were on the Celebrity Millie in May, and we also departed from Santorini at 11pm. We decided to stay ashore for dinner, but we ate at a small local restaurant (at 6pm) that had more of a cafe/tavern atmosphere and no view. I get the feeling you have something fancier in mind!

You need to be aware of the time of the last tender back to the ship. I personally don't like to cut it too close by taking the last tender...I'm just not a big risk-taker! Fira isn't that big and there are many restaurants in close proximity to the funicular. In order to allow time for a relaxing meal, I'd consider eating early (by European standards); possibly at 7pm. Just allow time to take the funicular back down from Fira to the tender dock. It isn't a long ride, and when we returned to the ship, there was no line at all but we were the only ship in port that day and it wasn't during the busy summer season.

Our guide, Nikos, said the restaurants are all good, just keep in mind that you will pay a premium for a view of the caldera. You can go to www.virtualtourist.com and click on "Greece", then "Santorini Island" to find a list of restaurant reviews.

Have a wonderful trip!

Hi

The ship's shopping host made reservations for us in Fira at the Spinx. The sunset was worth the price of the food..which was excellent but very pricey. The menu had a great selection. Go before sunset and make sure you have your camera. Also it gets cold and breezy after sunset...you might want a sweater..

ENJOY!

We were on the Millie in Mid June too, and it pulls out at 11pm. We had a dinner reservation at Sphinx for 7pm and the sunset was magnificent. We took a tender back, with many others, around 10pm. The shops were just closing at that time. It was a treat to eat off the ship and enjoy the beautiful setting. Good luck!
