flyingpirate Posted July 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2006 Hi Kids! We've cruised NCL only and our T/A has been trying to get us to try RCI. We toured the VOS last year in Los Angeles and it was a lovely ship, the lunch was good and the rooms were very nice. There is a 5 day round trip San Diego- Mexico October 16, he is holding a grand suite for us. We usually take an owners suite on NCL. So, what do you all think, shall we try Royal C? Is the Seranade as gorgeous as we've heard? Any tips? Anyone else going on this cruise? Ports aren't that important, we've been to Mexico and we live in L.A.. :p Thank in advance...he's holding the res, so I've gotta decide soon! critterchick Posted July 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2006 Look under the Meet & Mingle threads - there are quite a few of us CCers on board! I haven't been on Serenade, but I think if you liked Vision, you will love the Radiance class. We also did the tour you're talking about in LA. We've been on Radiance and Brilliance and they are wonderful ships, so I'm guessing Serenade will be equally fabulous. I'm surprised there is still a GS available for the sailing. Come and join us! Actually I'll be waiting at the pier for you'alls to get off the ship so I can get on. I've reservations on the Serenade, out of San Diego for Oct 21-29, Mexican Riviera; Acapulco, Ixtapa, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San lucas.

Hi Jean - I remember you and your DH from the Vision tour! It will be nice to have familiar faces onboard. I spoke to Bob this morning to take care of final details on our Alaska trip in September and he brought this one up...he found one GS left...as you may recall DH uses a walker and a balcony just doesn't have the space..but the price is very reasonable :D OTOH, we will have just taken 3 cruises in the month of September.....it would be 7 in the space of a year....it might just be too much :(
critterchick Posted July 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 5, 2006 Too much? Are you kidding me?????? There's no such thing as too much (Bob, I want a bottle of red wine for this:D )!!! If all goes according to plan, we'll take 7 cruises this year. Granted, 3 of them are 3-nighters, but it's a full 4 weeks total of being onboard a ship. golfer1966 Posted July 6, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 6, 2006 Enough talk about taking 7 cruises in one year. Some of us have to work ya know !!!! LOL !!!!! Im jealous !!!! Actually we did three and I thought that was alot, but 7...sweet. !! If they choose the Serenade, they will not regret it. We loved it and rebooked for this March as well. Awesome ship.... flyingpirate Posted July 6, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted July 6, 2006 And some of us are just retired bums, with a bad addiction problem, dragging from port to port, looking for a fix.........:D I think we're going to do this one...how do I tell DH? Surprise?
critterchick Posted July 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 6, 2006 Keith, we're blessed because we can get credit for working on embarkation day on those short Ensenada cruises - we live 10 minutes from the port, so we can leave the office at 1:30 and still be onboard in time for a quick snack before muster drill. This last trip we didn't have time to pack because the dogs got skunked late Wednesday night & I had to shower with one of them instead of packing (so not a thrill), so we worked until 1:30, threw our stuff into our suitcases (we keep toiletries & regular cruise stuff packed & at the ready, so it was a matter of remembering the right shoes, tuxedo shirt studs, etc) and headed out. We still had our WJ snack, but it wasn't quite as leisurely as we would have liked. I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. In fact, I usually can't even wait for my brain to engage before I blurt things out - it's both a blessing and a curse!:D
truffles2 Posted July 6, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 6, 2006 Serenade is a beautiful ship (all Radiance class ship are! IMHO) and a Grand Suite really is grand. I don't think you will be disappointed!
golfer1966 Posted July 7, 2006 #10 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Thats cool that you can basically leave work and be on the ship. !! I wish it were that easy for us. I can do that for an airport, but not the seaport. Anyway I am jealous and wish you well. The Serenade is a great ship and I am sure you'll just love her. Tell your DH that you won the cruise on a scratch off ticket and get him drunk one night and tell him you were kidding, but you love him. That will work.... LOL!!! Have fun.... Actually I can do that as well - even though I live in Sacramento. Southwest has flights to San Diego about every half hour. So I "COULD" work half a day, get to the airport, fly down and get to the ship by 3; in plenty of time for a 7:00 departure. Actually I think I have reservations on the 12:30 flight anyway, so the only difference is instead of working that morning, I'll be packing. RDeagazio Posted July 7, 2006 #12 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Laurel-- I have faith that you'll be able to convince Charlie to take this one... Besides I'll be going as well, and you know how much fun that will be :-) Jean-- You'll get your bottle of red (and then some)... I always send my clients wine in the cabins-- but we also have a 2 hr cocktail party on this cruise and each cabin will get wine and champagne and some other surprises :-)
leoandhugh Posted July 7, 2006 #13 Share Posted July 7, 2006 bob, we just got through reading with such pleasure and anticipation your travelogue from BOS - which we are doing 10/24 istanbul-barcelona b2b with the TA to miami. and here you are off again. we are also in sd, but, unfortunately not as many cruises as you. although you sure earn your bucks; I couldn't believe some of the questions the posters were asking you despite knowing you were getting about 3 hours sleep!:)
RDeagazio Posted July 8, 2006 #14 Share Posted July 8, 2006 LeoandHugh-- it never fails, people always want you to look at the cabin they have booked :-) Glad you enjoyed my Live from Brilliance posts.. I'm working on the full review which will be longer than Gone with the Wind. Since you live in San Diego, you should join us on our ship inspections/lunches. We usually do a few a year either in LA or SAN, depending on the ships schedules.. it's a lot of fun-- we get a tour of all the cabins/suites and public rooms and then have lunch in the dining room. Afterward we usually have a sailaway party near the port and the cruise line reps raffle off prizes.. If you'd like to join us, send me an email. Unfortunately I can't post it die to CC 's guidelines, however if you email SingBill@aol.com he'll be more than happy to give it to you.

RDeagazio Posted July 8, 2006 #16 Share Posted July 8, 2006 Auntie Jean?!-- I like the sound of that-- LOL I forgot-- everyone is also getting dinner in either of the specialty restaurants and $5.00 in casino play. We should have a nice little group== a few of the agents in my office are also going and have booked their clients into my group. For the price, this cruise was hard to resist. See you onboard! SingBill Posted July 8, 2006 #17 Share Posted July 8, 2006 Hi Bob, Laurel, Charlie, Jean I couldn't resist joining the fun. DH and I were on the Vision inspection tour with you all and I agree we had a great time. As a matter of fact we sail the Vision in January 2007. Laurel Although we haven't sailed the Serenade yet, we have sailed on the Radiance and love that class of ship. My two cents is that you can't go wrong if you decide to book. Hope to see you all at the next sailaway party. LeonandHugh If you want to join the fun, just drop me a line and I'll make sure you are on Bob's list. But I keep telling him, that Laurel and Charlie are number one:) I wish I can be in two places at once but alas the Freedom beckons. But rest assured, we will sail again together one day.
