Letters Posted July 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2006 Has anyone had success or failure in mailing/sending their luggage home at the end of the cruise while they continue on? I'm going on my first cruise at the end of July ending in Lisbon and am planning to spend some time after the cruise going around Spain. I'd prefer not to haul all of my lovely cruise wear on and off the Spanish Trains. So, has anyone sent their stuff home?
JanineM Posted July 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Several years ago my sister shipped several cases back from England without any problems. You might want to check with UPS or FedEx instead of going with the Post Office. I moved my entire small household from western Canada to the southern US via UPS, and everything arrived perfectly. kitty9 Posted July 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2006 I ship luggage all the time and it can be done from just about anywhere. But, it's quite expensive especially for international shipping. Depending on the weight of the bags and where they will be shipped to, it can run as high as $300 + per bag. Also, you will have to find the local offices of the company you want to use, such as DHL, Fed Ex or UPS---they can't pick up at the ship or dock. I've found DHL to be a little less expensive than the other two. Also, make sure you insure the bags for full replacement value. It's usually only insured for $100, and I think you will need to add more to cover your valuables. Another problem you might have, all those companies are very quick in shipping. I shipped from Wisconsin to Copenhagen via DHL and it was there in three days, so if you're planning on staying in Europe for an extended time, you will have to ship the bags to someone who can sign for them when they are delivered. They generally won't just leave something like luggage on your front porch.
