FliLady Posted July 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Has anyone done the shark awareness dive in St. Maarten through Dive Safaris?
Dive Master Posted July 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Yep, I did in 2003.It was very educational and alot of fun. We had about 8-9 Caribbean Reef snarks and one Bull as I remember. One word of caution, both times I went out with Dive Safari in St Martin the seas were pretty rough.I hear this is not unusual there. I used the Transderm patch when I did the shark dive and had no porblems. The second time I dove there I requested to dive the HMS Proselyte as the second dive and we almost had a mutiny on the dive boat. Most everyone was so sick they wanted to call it a day and go back in.I paid around $110 and Iwas doing the dive! I personally enjoyed the shark dives in the Bahamas a lttle better--maybe it was becuase it was my first time seeing the sharks. My favorite shark diving is off Morehead City, NC with the big Sand Tigers.Great historical wrecks in deep blue clear gulfstream water and lots of sharks.THe Sand Tigers breed around the wrecks and it is just their natural habitat--no need for baiting or feeding.I have counted up to 39 big sharks on the Papoose.George Purifoy(Olympus Dive Center) told me he counted over 80 one time in February on this wreck. Have fun and watch the fingers, Joe
