emmysmommy Posted July 18, 2006 #26 Share Posted July 18, 2006 I LOVED St. Maarten. :D :D It was my favorite port based on my limited experience of only being to Grand Cayman, Belize (talk about poor!), Cozumel, Costa Maya, Nassau, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. The port at Philipsburg (?) was very clean and had nice shops. Outside the gates of the port, we did not see the poverty but we only walked a short way to the Dock Maarten area. I would love to return there for a land based vacation.
CruiseTM Posted July 18, 2006 #27 Share Posted July 18, 2006 We cruised into St. Maarten a couple of years ago and only saw the port area, which was very nice. I've done a little more research on the island and have booked a week long land vacation. on the island It seems the island has alot of variety with good restaurants, casinos and beautiful beaches. I can't wait to go back! As far as poverty, the worst I have seen from a cruise ship was visiting Ecuador, Peru and Chile. However, it was an eye opening experience and one that I will never forget. It was an adventure, it was an education, and it made me appreciate our lifestyle. I love all my cruise experiences, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
