Red Hook Transfers arranged by Cunard

We are having a couple of days in NYC before flight back to the UK and wondered what time we might expect to get to our hotel, which is near Times Square. It's all arranged by Cunard, but is there some sort of pecking order in who is allowed off at what time once the ship has docked?

Hi

As far as I am aware you will arrive at your Hotel at about 2pm. This is the normal check in time for many hotels. The time between getting on the coach at the quay and off the coach at your hotel is spent getting into Manhattan and doing a scenic tour of New York.

You could decide to not take the transfer in (letting Cunard know of course) and make your own way by taxi to the hotel with your bags. You will than have to leave them in a baggage room while you hit the streets.

You could abandon the coach at the first chance (letting the driver know of course) and make your own way by taxi or subway to the hotel with your bags. You will than have to leave them in a baggage room while you get out and see the sights.

You might be able to get off at the first chance and ask the driver to take your bags to the hotel, turning up later and hoping your bags have made it and not been left unattended in the lobby (or left on the coach).

Or you could stay on board, working on the theory that the coach will take you around some of the places you'll want to see anyway (and for free). You'll get frequent stops to get out (your bags secure with the coach and driver who stays aboard). You'll likely get lunch in Grand Central, and then get to your hotel right on time to check in.

As for pecking order, well Cunard transfers are early, but not the first off (nor the last). But after 6 nights and 5 days of total relaxing, you don't want to rush rush rush do you? Take your time, get on the coach, relax and enjoy your time in New York.

Well that's just my opinion of course, I'm sure that many others will tell you differently.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that - it suits us fine. Like you say, we'll be nice and relaxed and not wanting to rush and will probably see some of the sites we want to see anyway, and we may be able to get our bearings a little before being let out on our own.
