linaka625 Posted July 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2006 Do the windows in the outside staterooms on Sovereign actually open up? I am trying to decide whether to go for the Junior Suite or the Superior Oceanview.
wrp96 Posted July 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2006 No, the windows don't open. If you want air, then you need a balcony cabin.
winncove Posted July 20, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2006 Wrona: Since we're S. of Atl., Sovereign out of PC, driving distance, seems our best bet for the xtra C&A credit. [Great prices for Labor Day but cancelled the Hold, thinking of Jan, Feb.] I see that was one of your earlier ships. I think I know the answer but..Will we be too let down after Mariner & Serenade? Cabins seem to be tiny! CCL Glory sure left us feeling kinda "flat"! If that had been RCL, we'd have our points! : ( Del

The Sovereign is a nice ship for the three and four day market. She is clean and well kept but she cannot match the Voyager class ships at all but if you keep your expectations in check you can have a great time on this ship. The crew is the usual RCI friendly group and service is also good. The cabins are much much smaller but again you are on a shorter cruise and should be able to make do. I would suggest a JS is you can swing it. The extra space is nice. I have been on the Glory and would take the SOS over the Glory anyday. I have some photos of the SOS in my link below. winncove Posted July 20, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2006 Thx Gator! Actually it looks pretty cool! Lots of glass & blue decor. [Glory orange was sooo bad. Cabin pics came out all orange!] Wish you had a pic of smaller rms but really not important since we spend little time there, esp on 4-5 niter and cruises before & after are hump balconies. Curious about Casino which you didn't show..how's the size of that? We think the Mariner casino is was too small for the # of pax & that was the one good thing about the Glory. Apparently you're not foolish like I am & donate to the corp.! Sovereign looks like a good place to be after the holidays! Think it'll be cool in our area by then? wrp96 Posted July 21, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2006 Winncove, I went on Monarch of the Seas (Sovereign's sister) literally 5 days after I got off Serenade. I went from an AFT JS on Serenade to an oceanview cabin on Monarch. Was it a completely different experience? Yes. Did I still have a great time? Yes. On the short cruises, you spend little to no time in your room so the size of the room wasn't a bother to me. There is still tons to do on the ship, the service is still the great RCCL service. In fact, they try to cram in all the fun of a 7 night cruise into a short 3 or 4 night cruise. Plus it had the added bonus of bumping me up to Diamond.
