hcs81m Posted July 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2004  My family and I are traveling on the Golden Princess out of San Juan in September. We booked a mini-suite (D-304) through a travel agent based on her desrcription of the room's location. Looking at the map the cabin is located right next to the elevators. Has anyone stayed in a room next to the elevators? Will it be noisy? This is our first cruise any other advice would be appreciated:)
pengu1n Posted July 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2004 My family stayed in E302 & E304 this summer. No noise from elevators was noticed. Elevators seem somewhat slow and I think a lot of people if able use the stairs instead. Also, these are the forward elevators and I think maybe the midship elevators receive more use. Anyway, noise was not a problem. Ours were handicapped rooms and were larger than normal and had nice, large bathrooms. Karen
cjh Posted July 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2004 Haven't been on the Golden but on her sister ship the Star and stayed in a cabin that was next to the elevator and never heard a sound.
sue d. miller Posted July 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2004 Welcome to Princess!!! :) Your cabin is not directly across from the elevator. It is one cabin forward of it. You should not hear any noise from the elevator. It is a good location. If you go straight up, 4 decks, you will be at the main pools, The pizza and burger, and ice cream stands. If you go down 2 decks you will be at the promenade deck, with shopping, internet cafe, vista lounge, explorers lounge, wheelhouse bar, sterling steakhouse, and the Pincess theater. Down 1 more deck, is more shopping, and the casino. have a great cruise!!! :)
JanetMarie Posted July 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 4, 2004 On two different occasions, our friends that traveled with us stayed in cabins near the elevators and stairwells. No problems. The laundry room door, though bothered another couple we were with...
Druke I Posted July 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2004 Unless you hit rough seas, you normally should not hear noise from the elevators. Sep 02, on the Golden's trans-Atlantic, Venice to New York, we hit two fairly strong storms (force 8 and climbing) - and the ship was bouncing about a bit. You could hear the elevator cars banging against the vertical shaft beams , but the ship as a whole was groaning and creaking like they do in heavy seas.
