Last-minute "Great deals' usually refer to the lowest priced inside cabin. You can always get your choice of cabins if they're available, and if you're willing to pay for them. Just realize that the advertised last-minute deals often refer only to the cruise rate, and do not necessarily include port charges and taxes.

We did a last minute Canada cruise in 2000 booked 5 days ahead and paid $700 total for cabin for three. We got a 4A in the bottom of the ship but for that price we couldn't pass it up.
