pnhmrk Posted July 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Well, I've finally done it:) I've managed to scan Andi's plans and upload them to Rapidshare. I'm posting a complete set of links (and the instructions on how to use Rapidshare) here. TO DOWNLOAD FROM RAPIDSHARE Click on the link below for the deck you want. That will take you to the Rapidshare page for that deck, scroll down the page and you'll see two buttons towards the bottom right. Click the one that says "FREE" and then scroll down the subsequent page to get to two links that are titled as Mirror Berlin and Mirror Zephyr. Right click on the link and choose "Save Target As". Select somewhere to save the plans on your computer (I'd suggest your desktop, it's easy to remember) and then click save. All the plans are saved as pdf's - you'll need Acrobat viewer to see them. Most people will already have this on their computer (even if you don't know it!), if you haven't then a copy can be downloaded for free from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. transat_jon Posted July 23, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks for scanning and posting these plans. It is nice to see the ship in her two class arrangement. I have the 1969 plans but of course there have been a number of changes since between then and 80s. The nice thing about your plans is that the doors (and bulkheads) between classes are shown. Bramcruiser Posted July 23, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks so much phnmark. I knew I wasn't getting a "premium" room when I booked my Caronia class room (Deck 4) on next year's cruise I but took what I thought was the best at the time in terms of location and size available for the category I chose. Now that I see the lay out I am okay as I like the beds to be near the porthole and this appears to be what I got. So it may be cozy but I think the cabin will do. Once again, thanks for the sharing of the file. I know it takes some effort to do this for us and we appreciate it.

pnhmrk Posted July 23, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Great set - thanks! BTW - do you have Upper & Quarter decks too? I wish I did:( Unfortunately I've posted all that there are of that set. There isn't even the continuation of Boat and Sun Decks. (When did they stop calling that deck "Sports Deck" and start calling it "Sun Deck"? I'm sure that it was "Sports Deck" when I was first on her and it wasn't until I saw these plans that I realised it had changed!) I do have some plans that show Quarter and Upper Decks, but they only go down as far as Deck 3. They show things like The Double Room so I suspect that they could be the 1969 plans. These links are for those plans in pdf format. http://rapidshare.de/files/26723018/Entire_Ship.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26723040/Signal_Deck_1.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26722977/Sports_Deck.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26724030/Boat_Deck_-_old.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26723004/Upper_Deck.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26723037/Quater_Deck.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26723027/One_Deck.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26723000/Two_Deck.pdf.html http://rapidshare.de/files/26722987/Three_Deck.pdf.html
dougnewmanatsea Posted July 23, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks, these are brilliant! The "new" plans are invaluable in choosing a cabin, while the "old" ones are just fascinating. Judging by the layout, they must be from from the very early years of her life as they show her exactly as built. I love GA plans like this that show all the crew areas - what a pity the lower decks aren't included! Also interesting to note that first-class and tourist-class are ambiguously referred to as "de luxe" and "standard".
vonBecks Posted July 23, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks for the plans; what a wonderful way to delve into history!
Coolgran Posted July 23, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks for the plans ------and instructions----I would have been lost without those. Lovely to see the layouts properly. How kind of you to go to so much trouble, it is truly appreciated Regards Coolgran
Olls Posted July 26, 2006 #10 Share Posted July 26, 2006 Thank you for the great plans!!! Does anyone know where the Observation Lounge was suppose to be? I had always thought she never had one until several people on this Board seemed to think that she did in the early days. As I recall, QE2 was criticised from the beginning for having no Observation Lounge like the QE and the Mary.
guernseyguy Posted July 26, 2006 #11 Share Posted July 26, 2006 Thank you for the great plans!!! Does anyone know where the Observation Lounge was suppose to be? I had always thought she never had one until several people on this Board seemed to think that she did in the early days. As I recall, QE2 was criticised from the beginning for having no Observation Lounge like the QE and the Mary. The observation lounge ('The Lookout') was forward on upper deck as originally built (- you can see her on the Upper Deck plan). What is now the Mauretania restaurant was served from the Galley on Quarter deck, one deck below with escalators (also visible on the plan) carrying the waiters & food between the decks. This proved to be inefficient, so in one of her earliest remodels the Mauretania galley was moved to where the Lookout was - and the Lookout was lost for ever.....on a 3 class ship, she most likely would have been a third class room, sitting as she did atop the third class stair tower. As I recall, QE2 was criticised from the beginning for having no Observation Lounge like the QE and the Mary. Hi Olls From '69 to '73 the "Observation Bar" or "The Lookout Bar" was on Upper Deck Forward. If you look at early deck plans you'll see it. In early photographs you can see the windows of this room below the bridge (below the ports of the officers rooms). This room was removed when the Britannia resturant was changed and a new dedicated galley was built in it's place. Hope this helps
Olls Posted July 27, 2006 #13 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Ah, yes, I see it, thanks - What a shame it was lost as we enjoyed the QM2's Comodore Club so much and, visit the Observation Lounge on The Mary for a drink (and pretending it is the 40s or 50s...) each visit!
