Take a tour vs Explore on my own

Hello Everyone,

 

I'm new here and thanks everyone for their great posts. It has really helped me out on planning my First cruise.

 

I will be going to South Caribbean with RCL on July 30th. I am flying on my own and will be in San Juan 1 day early. I will be at the hotel around 2-230pm to check-in and will be in PR until 10pm the following day (when the ship leaves at Pan American Pier)

 

Should I just get a map at the hotel and explore? or should I take one of these tours?

If I take a tour should I take the night or day one? Would it be too tight if I took the 6-8pm tour the day of the departure?

 

My girlfriend and I are 23 just incase that makes a difference in choice of excursion.
