newlywedcruisers Posted July 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2006 Hey, I will be cruising to Cozumel in October on the NCL Sun, and I really want to take an intro to diving course. Does anyone have any good recommendations on what dive shop to use or what not. I kinda wanna stay on the cheaper side (honeymoon cruise, so when we get back we will be poor). Thanks in advance for the help!
diverearl Posted July 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Sounds like you are wantind to do a discover scuba or what they call a resort dive. It will probably run you about $80.00 for one tank. I like Martin at Dive with Martin, and he offers an intro beach or boat dive. Also Alison is very hands on with her divers but I don't know what she charges for a resort dive. http://www.divewithmartin.com/ScubaSchool.html http://www.scubawithalison.com/next_step.htm or many others at http://cozumel-diving.net/ Hope this helps also be sure to check out Martins - Share Program on his web sight, earl. lbrooks34 Posted July 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Dive with Martin was my 4th and 5th dive ever. I like the op (Dive with Martin) as we spent the surface interval on the surface. That is, on a beach enjoying Cokes. I did beginner drift dives. It was a lot of fun! Beware though, Dive with Martin has small boats (I would call it a 6 pack - six divers to the boat), so it can be tricky getting back in. Also, their equipment was horrendous so make sure you have your own gear. Because I was a newbie I did not yet have my gear, but I rented gear from my local dive shop and took it with me on the cruise. If you have a chance to eat at a restaurant on Coz when you are done diving, go for La Choza! Authentic and just a tad off of the main street! sportsterjohn Posted July 29, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2006 You can also try eagle ray, they are very good with new divers
kathy7558 Posted July 31, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2006 We did the Discover Scuba with Eagle Ray Divers a few years ago. There were only 4 people in our "class" and I felt very safe. They made certain we were comfortable with the equipment while we were in shallow water before taking us out to dive. Check out their website http://www.eagleraydivers.com and e-mail them for info and pricing.
