What NOT to forget...

My addition to the list would be a clock!

We take a small travel clock because there are no clocks in the rooms. So when we wake up - way too early - we do not have to guess what time it is. We then remind ourselves that we are on vacation  and we do not have to get up!! But it is still nice to have ;)

Never forget the travel grill....you can get them at any camping store..great for heating up those cold sandwiches from room service and theres nothing like smores at 2am!! Just be sure to use it on your balcony as it is butane and you don't want to cause a fire..safety first! :)

That was not me who posted about the irons. It was Family Man. His whole post was sarcastic, but that was a bit obvious he was being sarcastic. You couldn't read that?

You should try to use the sarcastic emoticon when typing sarcasm, since it's harder to detect in type than when you're speaking sarcastically. Sorry, it's just that I couldn't tell you were sarcastic either until you pointed it out, and got the joke.

 <--- this one

Okay - this is the second time I've heard someone suggest to bring a "power strip".....what for?

Mary

The power strip is critical because your cabin will have only one outlet. you will need the extra outlets to charge batteries, plug-in your clock etc... "don't leave home without it"

Well the only thing I forgot was toothpast but hey have it on board.

Powerstrip, door shoe holder, 1/2 of the alcohol i took, insulated mugs, cooler, watershoes, travels checks, bungy cord, 1/2 the cloths I brought is the list I will not bring next time.

Powerstip never needed it and I do have a 2 plug in hair stuff.Just uplug one put it away and pluged in the other. Alarclock was battery operated used it often as the wake up service was down.

We took rum wich we mixed with pinnaple jusice I brough or sprit from the bar. So we just added Ice from the ice bucket to our glass if needed. They always keeped it full.

Travels checks we always cashed at the desk after using one once and they needed whole life info on it. Much easier cash or or credit card.

Used deck cair to hold door open when we wanted it open.

Used flip flops and sandles and 1/2 the cloths never got wore and I packed 7 night cloths and 7 day cloths. wore 5 night cloths and 4 day cloths.

didn't use alot of other stuff but those like first aid kit, highlighters sneakers and stuff like that you never know if you might need it. So I will pack them next time just in case.

Something I think important, but i've not noticed on other posts - is a spare pair of contact lens (or glasses) if you wear them. Losing, tearing, one etc., sucks if you can't see for the rest of your cruise.

Was it really much of a pain to use Travelers Checks? I know I don't want to pay to use the ATM, or to get $ off my credit card when I want cash. I figured rather than brining cash for tips/casino/cabs on port days/etc, I'd just cash travelers checks at the desk.

Did you say you iron your clothes in the room? READ YOUR LIST OF NO NO'S. It says no irons. I want to be informed of all your cruises, so that I don't have to worry about burning up at sea. I value my life and DH much more than neatly pressed clothes.

Okay - so, I'm not as experienced at this as you all.....are you saying that you are NOT allowed to bring an iron? I did my last 2 cruises and I used it and the stewart never said anything.......or is this more sarcasim? Which is fine, I'm just trying to get the correct information!!!

You are not allowed to bring irons. No sarcasm.

I can't find it now, but I used to bring a travel steamer, which was great. Just hang and steam. Sometimes I just hang my clothes in the shower and steam them that way. It may not get all of the wrinkles out, but it works well enough.

For some reason I don't like the fold lines in my or dh's clothes, but if I see someone else with them I don't think a thing about it. I mean, we're all on vacation and had to fold and pack our clothes.

Shay

p.s. someone said it already, but bring binoculars. And ladies, if you polish your nails, bring the bottle of nail polish for touch ups.

I just went and made a note for myself to pick up a new travel steamer. They really are nice.

EXCELLENT POINT!!! :D With out a good "I'm on vacation and I gonna have a good time" attitude - things can go bad in a real hurry  I think I would put that FIRST on my list ;)

An old grocery card with the magnetic strip on the back or the old hotel room key with the magnetic strip on the back can be used for your safe. Instead of having to carry your credit card around and possilbly loosing it or getting it stolen (thiefs take vacations too), use the grocery card or the hotel room key to get in and out of the safe. Then put it somewhere where you and your roomy can find it easily for access to your safe. You won't have to go looking for each other to get the credit card to ope the safe. I have a hotel room key I keep in my suitcase (cruising suitcase) for just that reason. When not in use, I use it as a book marker in the room.

Yes it was that much of a pain. We used our first at Jimmy Buffet and they wanted our address, drivers liceance # and state, birthdate, phone #. Well we put it on the front and they said nope it has to be on the back. We put it on the back then he said I hate to be picky but they have to have it right here and pointed to the place so we had to write it a 3rd time. Plus show Id which I expected but he studyed it. I was like OMG it is pulling teeth to use one.

If you cash them at the desk all you have to do is sign it and give them your cabin #. No fee for chashing them either. Much easier. I can see not wanting to pay for ATM fee and such or not wanting to carry alot of cash on you. If I do take them again I will again cash them at the desk before going into port like i did last time.

They usually warn against that on these threads. Something about the stewards being able to open the safe with that or something like that. Can't exactly remember, but I do remember that CC suggests you don't use your room key for the safe...........Anyone out there can straighten both of us out on this matter?

Criscoma, I think the poster was referring to using an old hotel room key. Not their room key to the cabin. I would never use your cabin room key. Most anything with a magnetic strip will work such as grocery card, gift cards, old hotel room keys, library cards, drivers license, credit card, etc.
