majesty or fascination?

Recommended Posts

Did you know that Fascination is one of the older Carnival ships? Well, we did not know that until we got on the ship. It was a very nice ship, but with very limited amenities and balcony rooms as compared to larger ships. When we were in Key West, bigger ships pulled next to us and we felt so old and small. We wanted to jump to a bigger ship so bad. For our next cruise, we are going on Freedom of the Seas (RCCL) in Oct, and there is no comparison. I don't think I will ever go back to a smaller ship. The service, food and enterteinment was great, but having an ice rink, rock climbing wall, royal promenade on a cruise ship?? No comparison. I have never been on a Majesty, but its better than Fascination. Do you research and I hope you find what interests you the most. I would stick with RCCL, especially newer ships. I payed the same price for having a balcony room on Freedom in comparison to a smaller ocean view on Fascination. I did not know better before, but I have done my research this time. and I even ended up with a Aft Junior Suite. You can also visit webshots, and put in Fascination and that will give you pictures of it. I hope this helps.

has anyone traveled on both of these ships?I was wondering what the differences are or which is better thanks for any help you can give me:rolleyes:

Yes, I have been on both. The Fascination is a fun ship. But.....I would definitely go on the Majesty again and have done so twice.

The Fascination has more exterior windows in public areas which is nice and their penthouse suites are VERY nice at a nice price. Staff is great. The ship has a really odd design and is so hard to figure out. Sometimes you have to go up or down to get across and then go up or down again to end up where you want to be. And it's nearly impossible to remember how to do it from time to time. The dining room seemed like an oversized diner to me. Very tin like and metalic and not elegant. The decor was really not special throughout the whole ship. Just some faded prints in the halls and the carpet was rather worn and stained when I was on it - clean though.

The Majesty is similar in some ways....small. Great staff. The dining rooms aren't as fancy as the newer RCL ships but there are 2 dining rooms and they are both nice. All the decor in the ship is a much higher quality and just seems a little classier. There are less windows in the public areas but window views are easily found especially in the usual Viking Crown Lounge. The ship itself has a nice easy to manage floorplan with no problem learning to find your way around. I have always seen someone somewhere doing some sort of routine maintenance on the ship even if it's just regluing down an edge of a carpet. They seem to switch out carpets in rooms as they need them so nothing has ever seemed dingy to me. The rooms are smaller. The JS is definitely smaller than the carnival penthouse suite and probably costs more. But I went in a small ocean view room last time - the smallest cabin I've had and it had great storage - everything I needed - I'd gladly take a room this size again.

If money is your concern, Carnival Fascination may be the way to go. If you want ports, go with RCI Majesty of the Seas. On the 3 nighters, Carnival only goes to Nassau with a sea day. Majesty goes to Nassau and Coco Cay. I love Coco Cay and would prefer to hang out there for the day rather than hanging out on the ship due to lack of any option with Carnival.

I'd go on either of them again. But Majesty of the Seas would be my number one choice - I LOVE that ship. I'm sure I will go on MOS again one day. Hmmm....maybe soon. :)

The Fanscination was my first cruise, but I have to say the Majesty is classier. The service is good on the Majesty. The food is equal. The entertainment is better on the Majesty. I was a bit leary going on the Majesty after being on the Voyager class ships but was not disappointed. Also the Majesty goes to one of my favorite places CO CO cay

I'm an RCI Diamond member but I will give Carnival their due. We were on the Fascination last May. It was our 1st Carnival cruise. We've been on two Sovereign class RCI ships... same class as the Majesty. Overall, I still prefer RCI but below are a couple things I liked about the Fascination.

If you're talking about normal inside/outside cabins, Carnival wins hands down. Carnival cabins on the Fascination are 180 square feet... RCI Sovereign class cabins are 121 square feet (very small).

Fascination has bottles of ketchup and mustard in their version of the Windjammer... RCI has packets.

Fascination has double odds at the craps table in the casino... RCI has only single odds

We will always take RCI when we're going to go on a 7 day or longer cruise but for a 3 or 4 day cruise, we would have no problem going on another Carnival Fascination type class ship again.

I am Diamond with RCL but given that choice I would say Fascination hands down. they are both older ships with great crews. I thought Facination had better food and entertainment (personal observation). For the money and the "fun" level go with Fascination.

Just a few weeks ago I was on Fascination ( and then Imagination, a sister ship) and a few weeks before that on Majesty...and again on Majesty in Aug. We had very good times on all these ships. Yes, Carnival rooms are larger, but I don't spend my time in the room. Food was comparable, some things better on RCI (lobster), other things on Carnival (souffle). Service was very good on both. Like the windows on Carnival, but the interior is SO DARK. I prefer the outside promenade on Majesty and like the front of the ship access on both. Also, I always felt crowded on the Fascination pool deck as well as the narrow outside promenade. However, I really enjoyed the Fascination's/Imaginations outside stern decks (outside the buffet area) for shade, relaxation and view (great view of sunset). Overall, I prefer the Majesty...but. Ask me again on Aug 14!

I have been on Fascination 2x & Majesty once. If given the chance I would go on either ship again depending on the itinerary. My husband & I both thought the food in the dining room was much better on the Fascination. Rooms on the Fascination we thought were a bit bigger too. You will have fun on either ship!
