What is the best way to get from mid Manhattan to red hook? What does a car service cost? Tax? how long will it take? What do you recommend?

Depending on traffic and where you are in midtown it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour(pretty much the max)....Cab should be about $25.00 plus toll and tip again depending on where you are.(I am assuming around 42nd street for every mile above that figuire 3.00 more)....

A car service will be about 25% more.

If from the East side have them go over the Brooklyn Bridge....from west side through the Brooklyn Battery tunnel...remember its right behind the brooklyn battery tunnel in Brooklyn....

Over the Brooklyn Bridge second exit straight ahead to atlantic ave make a right on Atlantic Avenue to the end make a left and then the first right follow that around and you will come to Bowne Street which is the entrace to the pier.

If you're only staying one night pre-cruise and have no interest in the Times Square area, you may want to think about accomodations in Lower Manhattan/Downtown. You'll be closer to Red Hook and will avoid some traffic.

We're staying here for our September cruise from Red Hook:

Comp breakfast and happy hour and you can request a suite overlooking the Hudson.

Here are some other hotels in Downtown Manhattan to consider:

Good luck! ;)
