slk230red Posted August 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2006 We are considering going on the Pride of America the first week of January, 2007. Has anyone gone on a Hawaii cruise in January? We are concerned about rough seas and missing ports due to weather conditions/big waves. Someone told us that they had gone once in January and missed most of their ports. Thanks, Dave
Shiraz49 Posted August 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2006 Ditto that for info on December weather and sea conditions.... only thing I can remember from my misspent surfing youth was that Hawaii was famous for surf due to it's winter swells. kenelmom Posted August 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2006 My daughter did the Hawaii cruise in January and they missed a ports because of the high waves. She said it was very rough going. She said she would NEVER try a cruise in Jan. again to Hawaii.
Suebee Posted August 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2006 Conversely, we cruised in January and had beautiful weather. It was terrible weather the week before though and we were worried. It was gorgeous for our week. Truth be known, yes there are higher incidences of rough seas in winter but you really cannot predict the weather here. Every day it is raining SOMEWHERE in Hawaii....thats why some sections are so green. Winter months have rougher seas on average but we just finished with some south swells here recently.
