Dining venues/dress codes on Mercury

Sorry, I guess this is one of those topics that keep coming up, but I've seen conflicting answers. DH and I will be on the 4 day Pacific Northwest cruise on Mercury, Oct 2. This is only our second cruise, and our first was on NCL, which I guess is quite different. :) We are definitely "casual" types, but I don't want to be inappropriate. I read that there was an alternative dining area at night, where casual dress was fine, but then I also read that you couldn't or shouldn't be in any public area in casual attire on a formal night. I'm not sure how we'd get to the informal restaurant without going through any other public areas?

...while a good number to not observe it, you may see in the daily activity sheet on formal nights, "We request that you remain in the dress of the evening when in public areas throughout the ship."

No. The alternative casual dining venue IS open on formal evenings.

What they state in the daily means that if you want to go to a show or lounge, or the casino...they expect you to be in the "suggested dress of the evening". It doesn't mean that you get lacked in your room. Theres the whole pool area as well as others were you can hang out. I'm not trying to get you away from ordering room service ( its great BTW ) I just don't want you to think you are going to be a total prisoner.

I agree with Dave in that you can go to the casual alternative restaurant in casual clothes on formal nite. If you cabin is at one end of the ship and the casual rest. is at the rear which it is., then certainly you can dress casually to get to the restaurant. But there will be people who say that they will dress whatever which way they please and go anywhere on the ship especially on formal nite. The newsletter does state the "suggested evening wear". I truly hope that this does not become another one of those formal wear threads that go bad. Hopefully not.;)

Thanks, all. Actually, room service does sound very nice on Celebrity. Much as I loved our cruise on NCL this wasn't one of their strong points -- I think you had to be in a suite to order food from the dining room menus.

I'm glad there are some places we can walk around on formal nights -- I expect we'll feel like children looking over the banisters at the adults all dressed up. :)

We had a great time in dinning room great food, great service. The menu was a little differant than the main dinning room but the food was just as good. As far as getting around the ship with out formal wear its not a prob. they are talking about the clubs, bars and shows.
