Anyone Use Laundry Services Onboard?

I think that we may to cut down on the packing. Otherwise, you end up wasting time before you go on the cruise and things get wrinkled anyhow. How has your experience been and how are the prices?

It has been a while but I believe it was $ 1.00 for the washer and another one for the dryer. It worked out great for me. I went early in the morning and got it done.

I have used the self-serve laundries on several ocassions, depending the length of the cruise. On the Island and the Coral, they are plentiful, conveniently located and usually desserted (or at least when I go, which is usually about 5:00 p.m.). Washers and Dryers are each $1.00.

We've used the ship's laundry service as well and have always been pleased. Can't recall the prices, but I think they're comparable to hotels. Sometimes they run a special, $15 for everything you can fit in a laundry bag.

Yes, $1/ea wash and dry. We brought a small container of laundry soap with too, but you can buy some there. There are ironing boards and irons in there also. Washing laundry or using the laundry service definately saves on space.

Dh said we are also cutting down on this trip. Hopefully one checked bag and one carry on each. Totally different then most of our cruises no matter what the length. I am a complete overpacker. lol

He keeps telling me that with free laundry and drycleaning since we have made Elite status, we don't need to be lugging all of these suitcases around. :(

Hopefully, I can find a way to get everything into two suitcases this time.

We were on the CB a little over a week ago and they NEVER offered the "all you can stuff in" for a set price deal. Believe me, I was looking for it. So, just take some quarters with you. Like the other posters said, it is $1 to wash and $1 to dry plus the cost of soap. We brought our own soap and dryer sheets and it worked out great. The day we were doing laundry, there were a lot of people in the laundry room waiting for washers and dryers!

We recently down-sized our luggage and utilize the self-service laundry on the ship.

The best time to use the self-service laundry is on a port day, or early in the morning. I usually start the washer, go get a cup of tea, put the stuff in the dryer, go check my email. By the time I'm done doing what I want, my laundry is done! Some people refuse to do laundry while on vacation, but the way I do mine, it doesn't seem like a chore!

Never used the ship's laundry. I have allergies and need to use special soap.

Packing hint = mix & match outfits so you can pack less. Stick to neutral colors that go well together. :)

Do you have a special laundry hint that doesn't make it seem like a chore? :)

I used it last year on the Coral. There is a coin machine in the laundry room or you can get quarters from the purser. Since it was 15 day and I had a teenage GS with me needed to wash a couple times no problem though. I got soap from the $1 store and put it in a zip lock bag, worked great.

On the Sea (as of May) they still have the smaller European style washers and dryers instead of the larger US type. There is no charge to use the laundry -- however, make sure you set the washer to run a short cycle!!!

Otherwise it could take 90-120 minutes for the just the clothes washer and this could seriously upset your timing if you plan on a quick load of laundry before heading off to dinner, a show, or to bed...

Yes! Get a cabin directly across the hall from the laundry! :D It's a breeze when you only have to walk 2 steps! Incidently, there was no extra noise due to the laundry's close location.

I didn't find it a chore either - throw the laundry in, go do something else, return in 1/2 or 3/4 hour when it is done, throw into dryer, repeat.

Note on the Diamond that some floors have larger laundry rooms. We were on Dolphin deck toward the back so the nearest laundry was either Caribe or Emerald deck, a very short walk from our stateroom. Laundry on Dolphin deck was very much toward the front. Emerald easily had twice as many washers and dryers and Caribe deck did.

We have used the laundry services on Princess & Carnival. Everything gets worn a 2nd time.

We are doing a 12 night Alaska trip beginning 9/4 and I have already packed the laundry soap. I haven't packed any clothes yet, but the laundry supplies are ready to go.

It really isn't a big deal to do a couple of loads during the week.

The use of the laundry room service is very helpful and easy to use. I used it for the first time on the Tahitian Princess and like every one else says is only $1.00 but you do need quaters. That was the most difficult part but you can get change at the casino. On the Tahitian Princess the soap was actually included in the wash. It is automaticaly added to the wash when you added the quater. I washed on the last night which was a little busy but it wasn't that bad. Definitely worth it.

I think I am going to do this on my 9nt crown cruise

My only warning is that the Crown washers may be the slowest washers ever invented. For some reason, when it did the rinse cycle, the water just kinda trickled its way in, probably took somewhere around 20 minutes or more to fill the tub on the rinse. Just couldn't believe it. Don't know if it was just the one room, but it was both washers in the room.

I packed some load's worth of allergen free detergent (my daughter is allergic to regular detergent) each into a small ziploc bag, and then all the bags went into a larger one. We ended up doing a few loads during our 15-day cruise and we ended up wearing many things more than once.

It's a great advantage to going on Princess. If you mention laundry on the Celebrity or RC boards (neither cruiseline has self-service), the retort is "the laundry service is reasonable." Well, I don't consider paying a dollar to wash my underwear reasonable.

Haven't seen the $15/bag offer on any of my cruises either.

  • 2 weeks later...

I washed on the Sun. Detergent was also $1. I would take laundry tablets with me next time. Don't try to iron on a formal night. It is always mobbed. Didn't know the washers were free on the Sea.:) That is the ship we sail on next.
