There has been a lot of discussion about the coupon book lately. Basically when you receive your docs you will have a coupon in there for the coupon book. You bring the coupon to the reception desk on the ship and they give you the coupon book. According to another poster these were the coupons:

“The first 2 tickets were for bon voyage drinks: which was buy 2 get one free and the second was for an embarkation dining at a specialty restaurant pay one get one free. The next was pay to dine five nights and get sixth night free, 10% off a tour on disembarkation, $3.00 off a t-shirt with the purchase of shore excursion, Free photo folio when you purchase 3 8X10, 30 minutes internet if you buy 250 minute pkg, 15 minutes internet free with 100 minute pkg, free body composition analysis with purchase of treatment, 50% of spa when in port on your Second treatment, one even money bet only on blackjack, crapes, roulette, baccarat or Pai-Gow, one free entry into slot or blackjack tournament with one paid entry, spend $50 in gift shop and receive 30% off combo t-shirt pkg, save $25 off $250 jewlery purchase, 20% off $25 worth of laundry and 25 free compass reward points when you sign up for a NCL credit card.”

Remember that you get this coupon book when you charge the trip with your mastercard. There are some good coupons and some useless ones, same as with any discount book.

We recently booked for the October 29th sailing of the Dawn, and based on some threads here, I asked my TA about this coupon book. He called NCL and they told him this promotion expired in February of this year.

Anyone know if this is true or not? Also, if we pay for our cruise with MC (which we will) does it happen automatically even if the TA got bad information?

My understanding is this was a promotion during the "Sale of Sails" which (sorry) did end in February.

They don't sound like coupons (get something cheaper or for free), but rather like coupons (spend some money that you may not necessarily have spent, and get a discount to do it again).

I think I understand.......

Were people really excited over these???

I'm not sure everyone is talking about the same book. NCL sometimes provide TA's with these coupon books to give to clients as incentives or due to a problem. (we were sent coupon books for our entire party due NCL switching our rooms.)

The coupon books include a coupon for a buy one, get one free meal in any specialty restaurant (on embarkation day only.). Dine in specialty restaurants for five nights, get a sixth free, etc. There are also some drink and picture coupons. There are so many strings attached to the coupons that we only ended up using two out of each booklet.

We just received a coupon book titled "Onboard Cruise Certificates" for our upcoming Majesty cruise. It has the coupons described in two posts above, and all seem to be of the type "buy something and get something additional with this coupon."

Are the coupons different for each ship or at least each location? The coupons for the casino won't do anyone any good that are on the Hawaii ships.[/quote

I believe they are all the same, at least across NCL ships. Perhaps they are different for NCLA.

From what I understand NCLA and NCL have seperate books. So you can use your coupons from the Dawn on the Star. But would not be able to use the same book for Hawaii.

Also, I called expedia about the coupon book because I booked with a mastercard. I was told the same thing. That sale ended in Feb. I cant complain when I booked I was offered a $150 obc. Thats more useful to me anyway.

There was also an offer through Travelocity for the same coupon book. Our final payment for an Oct sailing was in July and we received the booklet. Actually, due to a booking glitch, we were mailed two booklets. Of course, the coupons all have those strings attatched, but if we are going to purchase the things in the first place, it is nice to have an extra something or other. They aren't enough to make us do something we weren't planning on doing though.

Believe me I know first hand that there are two different coupon books for NCL and NCLA! When my cabin switcharoo problem with NCL was resolved, NCL said they would send me coupon books for our whole party due to our inconveinence. When the coupon books arrived they were for NCLA. ("for use on the Pride of Aloha, Pride of America and Pride of Hawaii only" right on the booklet.) My TA called NCL right away and they apologized for the mix-up and sent her the correct coupon books which we got a couple of days before we flew out.

It was actualy a very comical situation.

In all seriousness, the books are very similar in what they offer. There was no casino coupon in either book that I recall. Another worthless coupon for us was the one for 10% off a Shore Excursion on Disembarkation day. Too bad we were on the Dawn and they don't offer NCL shore excursions on disembarkation day. (I wish they had!)
