Rolls Posted August 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2006 Hi everyone. One of my friends has just come off the Pacific Star and advied me that when they used their cruise card, their remaining balance did not show at anytime. Is that correct, or is it only on the Pacific Star? The remaining balance always has showed on the Pacific Sky and Sun cruise cards. It would be a shame if this does not happen anymore.:( I do remember one time when the computers were down on the Pacific Sun and they did every transaction manually, then put the information through once the computers were working again. But in the end, you new what was remaining on the card. aussiedisneyfan Posted August 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2006 That's correct. I believe it is because on the Star it is a running account rather than debits from a prepaid amount. You provide your card details when boarding and they just debit the total amount spent on the cruise off your card at the end.It makes it harder to keep track of your spending. You can go and ask for a statement at the Pursers desk anytime.
Bedazzled_goat Posted August 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2006 I recently went on the pacific sun last holidays and the balance showed up on every reciept how much money i had left. Also you can go to thecashiers desk and ask for a statement of all the purchases you have made and they will print it out and give it to you which also shows how much money you have remaining. It is only Pacific Star (at the moment) that has the credit folio system where you cruise card balance is accumulative and the final balance gets charged to your nominated credit card at the end of the cruise. The receiepts don't have a progressive total. I suspect that because the credit folio system seems to be the US standard, when Pacific Dawn starts sailing - she'll probably have the same system. aussiedisneyfan Posted August 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2006 On the US ships (at least Celebrity) they use the same system as the star, however, like hotels, you can use the tv to check you spending, order shore tours and room service etc. No need to go to pursers desk. The only problem was it didn't separate spending between cabin occupants as we were all on the same card.
Rolls Posted August 9, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted August 9, 2006 Thanks everyone. It seems like all ships will go that way shortly. However in my few it's a shame to change something that has worked very well over the years, which I think if asked, the customer would prefer a balance total each time you do buy something on board. Then you can keep track of your spending more easier than having to get print-outs every couple of days. To get the total balance of what you have spent at the end of the cruise could be a bit frightening. At least the old way you worked that part out when you got back home. Oh well, I had better move with the times.;) Regards Rolls 2002 Pacific Sky (September from Sydney) 2003 Pacific Sky (September from Sydney) 2004 Pacific Sky (August from Auckland) 2005 Pacific Sun (September from Sydney) 2006 Pacific Sun (September from Sydney N628 17 Sept)
howsthis Posted August 9, 2006 #7 Share Posted August 9, 2006 I hope the Pacific Dawn has the same Cruise card as the Sun because it is much easier to know how your spending is going. I wouldn't want to have to go to the Pursers desk every couple of days to see how much I've spent. What if you don't have a credit card anyway, how would they charge you then. You would have to carry the money with you and then pay at the end, assuming you have enough and haven't overspent. Too much hassle.

On the Star you do not have to use a credit card, you can still put cash money on up front and top up as you want. There is no balance ever on receipts but during the cruise a trip to the pursers desk is quick and easy.:) I never use my credit card too easy and tempting to overspend, I take my spending money and that is what I spend! :o

Is tha correct Suey?? We used our credit cards to link to the cruise cards, and had cash on hand for the islands, casino etc. We had a small amount of Fijian currency that we brought before we left. In my case my "credit card" is actually a Visa Debit account - so it's actually linked to my savings accouint - it's money that's mine, not money I am borrowing from the bank.
