Zaandam Pictures

I FINALLY finished uploading all the pictures from our July 28-August 4 Zaandam cruise to Alaska. I don't know how many of you are interested in them, but I thought I'd post a link. (I have a son who is in South Korea, so I upload pics for him there, and he was dying to see the cruise photos.) Enjoy if you're so inclined.

Robin: great pictures! Thanks for sharing! So, what camera and lens(es) did you use?

We have booked the Zaandam for Alaska next May, r/t out of Vancouver, so the pictures of her were really appreciated!

So, what camera and lens(es) did you use?

For some I used my little Canon Powershot SD 400. It's a digital point-and-shoot. For most of them we used our Canon EOS Digital Rebel with three different lenses 18-55mm, 28-155mm, or and 100-300mm. We took over 600 photos!

I wish we'd taken more in Ketchikan, but we are novice kayakers and were afraid of getting our camera wet so left it in the dry sack most of the time.

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. Do you recall what cabin number it was?

Thanks! It was #2627 on Main Deck, a category D (I think). It was a great stateroom, plenty of storage in the closets, deep desk drawers. Cute little bathtub. (It's been THIRTEEN years since we had a tub!) We loved it. Although I wonder why on earth they put the bed against the window so you have to kneel on it to see out? They could just turn the bed (if it was wired that way) the other direction and you could sit on the bed to see out the window. Seems silly to me to have it the way it is since I like to watch the ocean.

Dear Robin,

Thank you so much for the photos of your cruise aboard the lovely Zaandam. I'm so looking forward to boarding her in just 2 months for the Group Cruise to Hawaii. I'd love to go back to Alaska, though. Given that it's 104 here in Dallas, today, I think I'd rather have the weather up there! :D

Robin,

You photographed your steward. In that photo he is wearing one of the "Vista ship" uniforms. Am I correct in concluding, from your photo, that HAL has transitioned its staff from the older red/blue and white tuxedo-like uniforms to the newer ones that were debuted aboard the Vistas?

When I was last on the Zaandam (in Fall of 2004) the crew were still wearing the red/blue uniforms. Like these:

I've not been aboard a non-Vista since 2004, so I wasn't aware that they had transitioned the whole fleet to the newer uniforms.

That was the standard uniform on all but the "Master Chefs" dinner when (I think) they were in white cook-like uniforms. (I wish I'd taken a picture, but I was laughing too hard.)
