Dawn Princess--What is the best deck and balcony cabin?

All of the Dawn Princess balcony cabins are exactly the same. The balcony cabins on Caribe have a smaller cutout for the opening on the balcony. Other than that the balconies are the same, too.

If I were choosing a balcony cabin, I would choose it on Baja deck. On this deck you are above cabins and below cabins. On Aloha, you are under the pool deck.

The smoothest area on any ship is midships, so I would choose a midship balcony cabin, although I must admit the aft suites are wonderful. However, you do get more vibration there and there is more motion.

If you can afford to upgrade to a mini-suite on the Dawn, do so. The mini-suites on the Sun class ships are unique. They really are SUITES. They are twice the size of a balcony cabin, have a tub and a separate stall shower, a separate toilet and wash stand room, a walk-in closet, The bedroom is separate from the sitting room (separated by a curtain). You have a double-wide balcony.

We were content in our balcony cabins (our first was on Caribe deck and we had a marvelous time), but quickly changed to Baja deck when I noticed the openings on the balconies were larger. We got hooked on the mini-suites one day when we were leaving the ship and the steward was cleaning a mini-suite. We saw it and fell in love with it and traveled in mini-suites thereafter until two years ago when I got a bargain suite on HAL, which prompted getting a suite on the Sun Princess (aft) which we loved even more. And now we are hooked on suites. However, if I could not get a suite, I would be more than happy to settle for a Dawn or Sun Princess mini.

Last time we had a balcony cabin and not a mini suite, it was on the Dawn. Riveria Deck. Loved the location, perfect and quiet without any noise from above or traffic going by. Only thing we found was that this is the cabin that showed us that the balcony cabins on the Sun Class ships are just too small for our liking.

As said above, all of the balconys are pretty much equal in sq. footage, the only thing different in them is the opening size. The actual balcony is about 3 1/2 feet wide by the length of the cabin.

Our balconies on the Dawn were slightly forward on the Aloha deck. We loved that deck because of the access to the front observation area. There aren't too many people who know about that area (obviously they aren't CCers) so it isn't crowded and the views are spectacular. DH liked the fact that we were close to the pool deck and Horizon Court, too.:D

:) on your likes and dislikes.

Have sailed the sun class 3 times and booked for 07 on one again.

The cabin I have chosen is the exact same one very cruise.

Riviera Deck for sure....

Can find it easy as well easy to pool, bar and MUTS and when going for dinner + casino is the only time for elevator.

PERFECT SPOT

I really appreciate all of the information you all provided in response to my question. The pictures were great.

Now...here's one more question. If the BAJA balconies are better than CARIBE balconies based on the larger cut out opening, why does Princess sometimes price the CARIBE balcony cabins at the same or a higher price?

BTW...the mini suites on the Dawn do sound wonderful. We haven't had a mini suite yet but hope to book one in the near future. The Dawn mini suites are for sure out of our price range as the cost differential between a regular balcony cabin and a mini is huge.

HIgher cost because they are one deck higher up. The higher the deck typically higher the cost.
