Beaches at Calica?

Hi - I will be sailing the Sensation on the 9-21-06 sailing. One of my port stops is Calica Mexico. I am not to interested in any of the excursions that Carnival offers, so I am looking for a beach / resort to hang out at. For example, when I'm in Costa Maya, I go to a certain beach, pay a few bucks for a cab, and then 30 bucks for lunch and open bar. Is there any nice place that is reasonably close to the port and offers some type of "day" package? Thanks everyone!! :D

Calica is nothing but a working rock quarry. Nothing else there except a few tent vendors. You have to take a cab/bus to go somewhere else. Most go into Playa del Carmen. Cab ride is $10 per cab, not per person. There is a nice public beach in PdC, as well as shopping and some great restaurants on Avenue 5.
