but that he was restricted to cabin for a time and NOT put off. The way I heard tell was that he was "egged on" by other teens.

I know that a 19 year old got busted in Ocho Rios for buying pot and his parents left him and continued to sail (good for them). Also a couple was put off for a "domestic distubance" and I saw a teen with an IV being taken off the ship on OR as well.

My heart stopping moment came yesterday afternoon at about 5:00 when an F15 (16?) fighter jet buzzed the ship. It sure maede the dolphins come up to tak a look see.

Becky was not the only one to have heard that the person who called was somehow mentally challenged. I heard from two staff officers that the boy had given his own name when he called in the man overboard report so they knew who he was right away. They couldn't tell from his description exactly what he had seen and when his parent/grandparents arrived they said, like the other poster, that he was incapable of making up stories so that is why they took it very seriously. The immediately stopped the ship and turned it completely around to return to the spot it supposedly happend. Our waiter was assigned to the stretcher patrol & he immediately disappeared & was replaced by somebody else.

My husband & I were having dinner in Sabatini's which is right at the very back of the ship & within seconds of the Man Overboard announcement, there were at least ten officers racing out to look out over the wake of the boat. We had just gotten to the entree when we were told to return to our cabins (& pick up our kids) & by the time it was all clear it was too late to return (10 PM). We went back another night & of course they only charged us once.

As to whether or not they got off, they did - the whole family was escorted off together but until the boat docked the boy was confined to his cabin so both posters are correct. Who knows exactly what/why he said what he did - but we certainly got to see a live emergency drill in action!

Believe me while we were confined to our rooms watching the searchlight sweep the darkness & the rescue boats zigzagging in the black sea, many people wondered if this ship was cursed but a huge sigh of relief went up when the captain made his all clear anouncement. Reminds you what is really important on a cruise - the ability of the staff to deal intelligently & immediately with an emergency!

I don't like seeing disparging comments about kids on ships, either. If they're supervised (either in the fun zone or with their parents), there shouldn't be problems. It's when they're bored and off on their own, then there are problems.

My hubby is suggesting there is a "Curse of the Crown", probably because of the "witch." (he's joking, of course)

Wasn't there but can tell you that mentally challenged people are usually not smart enough to think up that type of prank. It was definitely a stupid, reckless thing to do but I would bet that the kid wasn't "mentally challenged"- just a rotten teenager! Believe me- I wouldn't take a kid between 13-15 on a cruise. They are at their worst.

I agree that your entire post was very inappropriate about both mentally challenged people and teenagers in general. If you read my post on the Man Overboard on the Princess board, you will see that it was indeed a mentally challenged boy who did this (I have no idea if he was egged on or not) His intelligence was not in question, just his ability to understand the gravity of what he had done. I blame the adults he was with because he really did need more supervision!

Also, there were a lot of teenagers on this trip and the ones I saw were very well behaved!

Is that what it was? By the time I got dressed and went out on the balcony, I couldn't see anything with all of the cloud cover.

Sorry I missed it! Just HEARD it!

I was in the Sanctuary and I saw and heard it. It was LOUD! The woman next to me looked very concerned and she ran back to her room to see if there was something on CNN. She seemed to know what she was saying about the fighter jet (I got the impression she was in the military)

There is a viewing area on top of the bridge. There were several people up there with cameras and binoculars. I had not seen anyone in that area before. I got the feeling that they knew the jet was coming and were there to look for it (or else it was a big coincidence and they were looking for dolphins!)
