Hi Dawn,

Just wanted to thank you for these updates. They've been great I look for them each day. Were on the Dawn on 10/22/06 so this has been very exciting. Sounds like you had a blast. Can't wait to read more from you. And I will be getting a MArgarita at Salsa. LOVE THEM! Tif:)

Hi all ~~

This will most likely be my last post from the ship - we dock tomorrow AM and by this time tomorrow will be back home and I will be up to my eyebrows in laundry. :-(

Today has been another fairly low key day - although there was some excitement when I won $471 in Bingo this AM. I've never won at Bingo before and now twice on this trip! Only $34 the first time, but this one was a big one - I was so excited!

DS#1 wanted to go to the magic demonstration at 3:30 (15 minutes ago) and I said I would join him. It was in the Cinema (deck 12), but when I got up there it was seriously standing room only... they need to consider moving that event to the Stardust or the Spinnaker - there was huge interest and not enough seating. I didn't stay, but DS did, so I will ask him how it was later.

I'm off to get cleaned up for early dinner at Le Bistro with my friend and perhaps to grab a margarita on the way. If you like margaritas like I do, ask Genaro at the Salsa to make them for you - fantastic!

I'll be in touch again after I return to the "real world" ~~~~ Thanks to all who have read and responded.... it has been a real joy.

Dawn

Dawn:

Thank you so much for the "live" review. I leave on the 2nd of Sept for the New England cruise and your thoughts have been most informational. And I must say very classy.

Dawn thanks for the wonderful day by day review. We'll be sailing for the first time on NCL on 10/29 and we're REALLY excited. My friend Terri is the one who asked you to check out our cabins on deck 6. Based on your thorough review, we've decided that unless they offer us a FANTASTIC upsell, we're not going to budge!

Look forward to reading about your disembarkation review when you get home.

.

Also, in your opinion, what would be a good place for a CC "meet & greet" at sailaway? We were thinking of the Star Bar or Spinnaker Lounge or Topsiders Bar.

Terri

i've set up a few cc meetings in the past and the usual way to do it is to contact NCL passenger courtesy.

I have an email address somwhere if you like.

You may suggest where and when you'd like to meet but they may change it. We have always asked for the star bar at 11 on the 1st sea day. (sailaway is a bit crazy time) That works out unless they have a private function scheduled ahead of time.

In the past they have set out a nice continental breakfast spread and many ship officers have attended.

Please email me the contact information. I'm actally the "Activities Coordinator" for the group that Terri and I are sailing with. My email is in my sig line below, just put CC in the subject line.

Thanks ever so much!

autums1stangel,

Thanks for the start of your blog on the Dawn.

We will be sailing in 3 weeks, could you please find out if Claudio, the Concierge will be on the ship for 9/9/06 and who the Cruise Director will be. I know Matt Baker (CD) left for vacation.

Thanks and I hope you have GREAT cruise.

Monty

Hi Monty,

DH & I were on the Dawn in June. We are going again in December, so I asked Claudio if he would still be on the Dawn then.

He said he was going on vacation this fall. I think he said he was returning in October. So, he may or may not be on the Dawn in Sept.

Sorry to be so vague, but who can remember a conversion from early June? I just remember that he was returning by my cruise so his vacation dates didn't "stick" in my memory.

Have a great cruise,

Barb

Wish they would go through the canal on their way out of Boston. That would be serious fun. Then I could really wave to everyone. Many friends on the Cape

Would love to see a cruise ship go through the Canal.

Do you go to the Vineyard on your cruise? We sailed Maasdam through the passage between Falmouth and the Vineyard on our way to Oak Bluffs. I'd like to have seen that from the shore.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for checking the 6000 cabins out. Terri

Hi Terri, This group of cabins have been talked about before and we heard that they were very quiet and well placed. It is also so near the elevator and those who booked them before would do it again. Hope you enjoy them.

Hi all ~~~

Wow! I have just been overwhelmed by the people who have responded to the blog - it's just been so much fun and I was so glad to share my experiences with new friends.

The last night on Dawn was just as wonderful as all the rest of the cruise. My new friend Linda and I went to trivia in King Pearly's and then off to Le Bistro for dinner. She enjoyed the cesar salad and sea bass while I had the warm asparagus in hollandaise sauce, escargot (yum), and the vegetarian entree (potato au gratin, ratatouille, and stuffed tomato). All were wonderful. We had barely finished dinner and it was time for the amateur show in the stardust theatre. One of Linda's friends was performing, so we went to cheer her on... and she ended up winning. It was great to see the talent on the ship - really a nice show.

After that, Linda went up to pack a little and I was supposed to do the same, but as I passed the casino, I heard a blackjack table calling my name. I sat down for what I thought was a few minutes, and when I looked at my watch it was time to meet Linda again for the 9:30 show... she gently chastised me for not getting my packing done, but I was winning for a change at the table, so packing became less important, you know.

The 9:30 show was great - good musical performances and a great comedy routine by Rex Havens. Then the cruise director's staff did a routine called "Fountains" that was hilarious - I'm not going to try to describe it, just trust me - go see it.

A few more songs at Gatsby's from the piano player and finally I retired to my room to face the packing monster - it actually wasn't too bad...

Saturday AM arrived after a rocky evening on the ship including a thunder and lightening storm around 2:00 AM. It was actually nice to listen to the rain and have the ship rock you to sleep, but I like to sleep when it's raining.

Debarkation went as smoothly as can be expected. The mid-ship elevators were a mess, but we went forward and had no trouble getting an elevator down with our luggage. We did the express debarkation (available only to US citizens) and carried our own luggage off. It made a HUGE difference - we were off the ship by 9:30. One note - if you need to catch a taxi from the pier, be sure to get a number inside the terminal from the guy yelling "taxi" - we just followed the signs for "taxi" and then when he asked us for our number, we didn't have one --- oops! He let us have a taxi, but I was afraid for a minute he was going to make us go back to the terminal and get a number at the end of the line...

A quick taxi ride to Penn station and we were on our way back up the Hudson River toward home.

We have picked up the animals from the kennel, started the mountain of laundry and pretty much organized ourselves back into routine life....

What a wonderful cruise we had! I highly recommend Norwegian in general, and the Dawn in particular.... Everyone I met was wonderful and friendly - the staff was great and I can't think of a better vacation.

It's been a pleasure to share with all of you. I will check back a few more times to answer any more questions people may have. Thanks for all your interest and I wish for all of you the same fun on your cruise as I had on mine.

Take care, all ~~~

Dawn

Hi again -

Yes, the Master's artwork was still in Le Bistro - under lock and key, of course. I don't know when they might be removed. I assumed they were on loan from a major museum. It was really nice to see them.... we were seated right next to a Van Gogh - quite a treat!

I have uploaded my photos to my Kodak EasyShare Gallery, but I would need to send an invitation to email addresses for you to access them. If you are interested in seeing them, I would love to share them... just email me at dawn11760@aol.com and I will send an invite to you for viewing.

Happy Cruising,

Dawn

The Masters are a private collection, I believe of the owner of STAR CRUISES (Maybe Mr. Lee?). The last I heard the Masters would be going out for restoration and would be going on the Pearl next.

I'll be on the Dawn next month.

I'll check (if they're still there) and let you know when they're being removed.

Won't be the same without them:(

Hi Dawn! What a wonderful review you gave us! Thank you so much we felt like we were on the ship with you! I do have some questions if you don't mind. We are thinking about booking the Dawn on Jan. 28, 2007 for a carribbean cruise out of NY. Have you or anyone else had any experience cruising out of NY at that time of year? Is the ocean pretty rough then? I'd like to get some idea of what to expect in Jan. Also does anyone know what the mini suites on the Dawn are like? The picture of them on the website seem to make them appear dark and small. On automatic tipping that you mentioned is it like how RCCL does it where you have the option of pre-paying tips when you book your cruise or does NCL do it differently? I prefer the pre-payment option so it's paid before I go except for extra tipping for others. The automatic tipping on RCCL does not pertain to your bar bill just the other staff. I appreciate your experience on the Dawn! Thank you again!:)

Hi Dawn- I have been following your cruise all week- great job with the review. I will be on the Dawn 8/18/07. Cant wait. I have a question for your but it has nothing to do with cruising. How did you get your name fr. Glitterworks to your threads. It looks so nice but I cant figure it out. hehe
