Upset with Carnival

I, too, have wondered if they look at your s/s accounts from the past. We normally don't have a huge bill at the end of the cruise.

I think that there are so many posts here that are titled: "The Upgrade Fairy Visited Me!" and "Got a Great Upgrade!" that when it doesn't happen, a person could feel slighted. ?? Who knows.

We usually don't do guarantees, but the one time we did, it worked out fine. We got the catagory we paid for, in a nice location. On Carnival.

I am sure your cruise will be great!

I understand your disapointment and I don't see the harm in a phone call either, but I am blown away by some of the short and somewhat rude replies you have recieved. I don't think you are bashing Carnival because you want an upgrade (heck, my fingers were crossed for an upgrade and I got a small one!) I believe these boards are here to help us with our questions. Maybe we shouldn't say anything at all if it's not nice!

In the future you might want to look for a deal similiar to the one that I booked for this year. It was during a local TA's cruise show and I did get a "free" guaranteed upgrade of 2 categories at the time I booked. I paid for the Riviera Deck and booked on the Upper Deck as well as getting my past guest discount. I booked 4 cabins at this rate and picked the cabin numbers at the time of booking. This way I got my upgrade up front and no surprises either good or bad later. :)

I am still confused by your reference to being "nonrevenue" passengers. ...

Your first sentence says you have paid for all of the cruises - therefore, you would not be "nonrevenue".

I think this thread has been trying to figure that out. So far, we do not have an answer. I will speculate that "non-revenue" refers to the upgrade that did not happen - the OP was non-revenue for the upgrade category. Apparently, they were definitely paying customers for the guarantee.

Here is an idea. next time dont use a TA, in my opinion they are a waste of time. And the cruise prices are sometimes more expensive with a TA. Book with a carnival cruise specialist. I will be going on my seventh cruise in about 3 weeks. I paid for an inside cabin guarantee. An the carnival specialist upgraded my wife and I to the 10th deck, and put us in a balcony cabin. It is a lot easier to book with a carnival specialist.

Our resident TA Joe explained it in the post above... :D

Sometimes it is better with a PVP, sometimes better with a TA... it's personal preference. You are not going to pay more with a TA and sometimes you will pay a little less with a TA. You will not always be upgraded with a PVP, you will not always be upgraded with a TA. There are millions of stories out there that will put holes in BOTH theories. It is not always easier to work with either. Do your research and book with who YOU feel most comfortable with.
