what can we do w/out taking tour w/ship?

I suggest walking around Bridgetown. Cave Shepard and Harrison's have duty free goods. The main shopping area is only a few blocks long.

 

Eat at the Waterfront Cafe (across the bridge from the main town). Excellent Bajan (pronounced Bay-jun) food.

 

If you have time to go other places, the mini-busses are 1.50 Barbados (.75 US. They have a maroon stripe on the side and a black circle with a number on the front. Wait for one that is not full. They really pack people in. Ask the friendly locals for the way to go.

 

Oisten's fish fry on Friday nights is not to be missed.
