seaway Posted April 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Does anyone know of a tourguide other than Sylvie and Alain in Villefranche? They are both booked on the day I need someone.
LEtue Posted April 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2004 In case you can't find a tour guide don't worry too much. Grab a guide book and read up on the area. You can easily do Nice, Cannes, and Monte Carlo by train. If you want to get to Eze you can probably grab a taxi in Nice to take you up and back. Good luck! Bev Posted April 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Hi I’ve been researching tour guides for the Western Mediterranean because we’re going on the Galaxy's Transatlantic sailing in May. For Villefranche, we settled on Revelation Tours. Their prices are very reasonable, they have responded promptly to my emails and been very accommodating. Their tours and services are exclusively in English and they provide extensive training for their driver/guides. Revelation Tours has sent me a confirmation voucher and does not require a deposit. Other services offered: - A personal visit folder: Historic, maps, itineraries of visit, for every stop. - A minibar with free drinks. - An audio show with the sounds and moods of the Region. I've been corresponding with Michel Legrand at Revelation Tours at revelationtours@aol.com. you can check out the web site at http://www.revelation-tours.com/homepage_uk.htm Hope this helps. Andym Posted April 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Grand Prix, I'd give Monaco/Monte Carlo a miss then. We were there once just after the grand prix and were told that it was absolutly crammed with people. For Info, its quite easy to do Monte Carlo, Eze and Nice on the train, and its cheap. I think only about 10 euros now.
Mike Andrews Posted April 8, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2004 I would agree with Andy, unless you are a Formula 1 nut,Monaco will be a place to avoid,as most of the main roads will be closed (as the race is run on the streets of Monte Carlo) and getting about will be virtually impossible. seaway Posted April 10, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Thanks Bev! I've emailed Revelation and I am waiting for a reply. I'll let you know how I do. There is a chance that Alain will have a cancellation from Dreamtours but I am not hopeful. Have a great time next month. We are sailing aboard the Millennium on the June 14th departure. cruisinjudy Posted April 10, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Bev, does Revelation Tours pick you up at the ship? Which tour are you taking and how much is it. The prices say they were good two years ago.
Live the good life Posted April 11, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Hi cruisinjudy, we booked a tour with Revelation Tours (www.relevationtours.com). Michel Legrand is the contact person. He will pick us up at the port and takes us from Nice (Promenade des Anglais beach boardwalk) to Cannes to spend time on the palm-tree lined beach boardwalk "croisettes", then to Antibes, St. Paul de Vence, Eze, Monte Carlo and villages in between. We are very impressed with his offer of services (comprehensive brochure that he e-mailed to us, region music to put one in the mood in the van in addition to narratives, free drinks, personalized pamphlets, etc...) and quickness in responses to e-mails. He also indicated that the web site would be updated with testimonials within a week. The price is very reasonable for a private 9 hour tour, and flexibility to stop for photo ops at the "spur of the moment". He assured us that this would be a private tour and that he would be very open to changes in itineraries. He might even give you a discount off the listed price (about 500 euro)! Let's wait to hear from Bev as well... FYI: I had contacted Sylvie who was very sweet, but she was booked; and did not have a positive experience with Alain from Dream Tours (he acted as if he did not need more customers, and impatient on the e-mails, indicating that our private tour's quote would be increased by 20% in case another couple asks to join the tour and we don't agree...Just to mention a few things he listed on the correspondences...I know of other cruisers who were happy with their services, and I am happy for them.) To us, VilleFranche is such an important port not to be able to visit and enjoy from Cannes to Monaco. We are very happy about our decision because our ship's tour does not offer both Cannes and Monaco in one tour, and we would have missed out on Cannes!!!Let me know if you have other questions. Live the good life Posted April 13, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Made a typo on the correct web address for a tour of VilleFranche described on the above post. The correct address for this Revelation-Tours should be: www.revelation-tours.com !
Bev Posted April 17, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 17, 2004 Hi Judy I echo all the points Live the good life has made. Michel Legrand at Revelation Tours has been very easy to deal with. As more and more people on our roll call thread joined the tour, he kept adding minivans and lowering the price for us. Revelation Tours will pick us up right at the port. Michel has told us how to identify their drivers, and they're going to have signs with my name on it for us to see. He knows when we have to return to the port to catch a tender back to the ship and has assured us that will not be a problem. As for tours, we're reviewing the brochure Michel emailed us. He has suggested that we might even want to have a different itinerary for each minivan if there are different interests. That may be what we do because I know some want to see Cannes and Monte Carlo while others want to spend more time in Eze and St. Paul de Vence. Let me know if I can give you any more information. I think you've got my email address from the 12/05 Hawaii cruise thread. Bev
