I know this question has been asked numorous times, but im having trouble finding the thread(s). I was looking at doing a back to back on Crown Princess this spring, it leaves San Juan. Has anyone done back to back? what were your experiences? and what kinds of things can i look forward to with the starting point being San Juan and not the States? I know that the Crown has not started its San Juan cruises yet, so I know no one would have any opinion on that. Also, i dont mind looking at other threads, so even a link to another thread on this topic would be great as well. Thank you very much to all that reply.

The best part about back to back cruises is on the 'last' night of the first week as everyone else is rushing to pack and getting sad that their vacation is just about over you know yours is only at the half-way point. You can relax and enjoy the evening. The next morning you can try to sleep in as everyone else is up early and running around but it is tough with all the announcements being made. I would go to breakfast in the dining room then relax and enjoy the sun by the pool. You can get a pass from the ship to get off and look around San Juan if you want.

Yes, Back to Back from San Juan is totally do-able! Even on two different ships. We were a party of 6 and sailed in January of 2004. The first 7-day cruise was on a Norwegian ship, and the 2nd 7-day cruise was on a Royal Caribbean. It was GREAT fun having two different ships to explore since there were new shows, new dining rooms, new staterooms etc. We live on the West Coast and wanted to maximize our airfare from California to San Juan, but couldn't find any ship that was doing a 14-day cruise to the Southern Caribbean. So we opted for two 7-day cruises. Lucky for us, the two ships were the only ones docked at the Pan American Pier in San Juan. So we strolled off of one, walked 1 block, and strolled up the gangway of the second ship. We had a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat. We repeated only two ports in those 2-weeks, the rest were all different. Good luck with your planning. We arrived a day early in San Juan just to make sure we had no travel glitches. Even if you stay on the same ship, what's not to like about a longer cruise:D ! Good luck and enjoy!

We also did a B2B on the Carribean Princess in 2004. It is just fantastic knowing that while everyone is going to bed early and are packing, we're relaxing and enjoying the ship. On the 1st disembarkation day, we all gathered in the casino after receiving "In Transit" cards the nite previous, identifying those who were going another 7 days, then had to disembark to go through customs in Ft. Lauderdale which only took about 30 seconds. Don't know how it works in San Juan however. Beware if you think of keeping your cruise cards from the 1st leg. They took them when we disembarked and were issued new cards for the 2nd leg. We then went back on the ship and had the run of the ship. It was fantastic to relax around the pool w/ hardly anybody around. Another bonus was that we didn't have to do was the emergency drill on the 2nd leg. We were allowed to remain in our cabins. Have to admit though, I was so sick of seafood by the end of the 2nd leg of the cruise. I couldn't even look at Lobster when it was offered near the end. So enjoy, because we absolutely loved it and will definitely do it again.</p>

I did my first (so far only) b2b on HAL, Boston-Mtl-Boston. In Montreal, I was on the back deck smiling at all those poor souls heading to their buses. Then, on a whim, I went, "Bark! Bark!" You see, I was neither debarking nor embarking; just barking.

 

It was funny at the time.

We have cruised out of San Juan on the Golden Princess and we have a B2B sceduled in 2008. There are some really nice hotels you can stay at and its a great way to start a cruise. There are some nice excursions you can take in San Juan if you are doing a B2B... or if you arrive in San Juan a couple of days early.
