P and O gay cruise

I've been on 3 cruises with my male partner, and we've not experienced anythng negative from fellow passengers or crew. In fact, in our everyday life we been lucky not to experience this either.

We don't overtly "advertise" or relationship when we are out in public, holding hands and the like, even though it would be nice to live a world where we could openly do this, but on the other hand we don't try to hide it either.

On one of our cruises we went with my mother and my partners mothe, the four of us sharing a 4 share cabin, and it was interesting to gauge people trying to work out what the relationship between the four of us was.

You'll have a wonderful time on your cruise..... And you'll probably be surpised who many other gay couples there will be. I know we certainly haven't been the only couple on any of the cruises we have done.

How was it traveling with the mothers? Was there enough for you all to do together or did they do their own thing and you two did yours?. We have discussed taking our mothers later if this one is fun for us, I would love to take them somewhere and show them something wonderfull that they would never forget. Oh my could you imagine the wait for the bathroom with four women in one cabin........twin cabins might be the idea I think *L*

We survived! It was only a short one - 7 nights - so it wasn't too bad. Anything longer than that and we'd have seperate cabins.

On my second cruise it was my partner & I and my parents - and we had cabins next to each other, and our last cruise was us, my parents and my partners mother and her best friend, in three cabins in different parts of the ship.

On all these cruises, we've all had our own holidays. Some things we did together, some things seperately depending on what took our fancy. On the last cruise we all booked our own shore tours, and only found out when we got on the bus in Suva that we'd booked the same tour as my partner's mother & her friend - that was funny.

Hi linniee and Skyrules and friends

As a gay man myself, I have travelled with my gay partner and friends for the last 4 cruises, and we have been treated wonderfully by fellow passengers. Unfortunately my partner is unable to come with me this time as he is seeing his family in England, so I hope I enjoy myself just as much. I'm sure I will.

Not long now linniee:) , I can't think of anything else at the moment. I'm very excited in getting away. See you on board!

Regards

Roland

My daughter is also gay and their attitude is much the same as yours Sky, they don't flaunt it but don't hide it either. They choose where it's appropriate or not. (and I must add I've always been very proud of who/what she is).

When they get back from their holidays o/s I'll have to let them know about the Gay cruise, they may look into it.:D

Have a great cruise.

I'm also gay (surprise, surprise), and on my last cruise there were numerous gay couples on the ship. Being amongst 3,000 Americans, I was interested in seeing peoples reactions. Overall I wasn't surprised. Most were whispering and pointing. I felt so sorry for them. They genarally try and pair them with other gay couples for table assignments.

The amount of ships that are chartered every year for Gay cruising is phenomonal(??). I think the cruise after mine is an Atlantis cruise (gay charter).

Also, since I go with my mum, people also look and stare at us, thinking that my mum is a cradle snatcher:p .

Personally we aren't interested in going on the gay cruise - for several reasons - 1) 3 days is way too short :) , 2) we'd have to go to Sydney to do it  and 3) we actually don't like the idea of spending 3 days on a ship full of gay people.

Don't get me wrong this isn't because we don't like other gay people - but because we aren't stereotypical gay party animals who just want to drink, dance and party all night and all day. We are more comfortable amongst our friends (both straight and gay) socialising over dinner, coffee, etc. The party scene, which is what this cruise is aimed at, isn't really our scene.

Hi Kym

This is the same with my partner and I, mainly for the same reasons as you. We are what is called "straight acting" and we are not the kind that likes going to gay night clubs and that sort of thing. Of cause, people who wish to do this, good on them, but it's not our scene. When I was younger I attended rallys ect for gays in NZ to be treated equal. Now that we mainly have that here with most things, even Civil Union Partnership, I think that maybe we do not need so may things around for gays only. It seems to defeat the purpose in what we were asking for. Anyway that's only my opinion.

I totally agree with you Roland, you can't demand equality - but expect to be treated differently at the same time. This is why I don't agree with Mardi Gras, you don't fight for equality by carrying on in such as sterotypical fashion - it just gives people even more ammunition by flaunting the one aspect of the culture that seems to upset everyone.....

At least NZ is forward thinking enough to have Civil Unions, something we're not likely to see here any time in the future.

Ok, now I"ll get down off my soap box as well.

While I am married & straight, some of my very best friends are gay. I would be very upset if they felt uncomfortable to go on any cruise. Everyone should feel free to live their lifestyles openly!

Totally agree with you Tikibird.

As a gay man who recently travelled on the Star I have to say my partner and myself never once felt uncomfortable. We were travelling with my family and the most incomfortable people were those that assumed that my sister was my wife.

It's interesting to note that in all the advertising for this cruise (in the gay press) there is no mention about the name of the ship or the cruise company the ship is being chartered from.

There are photo's of Pacific Sun used, but any identifying logos; on the funnel, on the front under the bridge, and the ships name on the bow have all been air brushed out.

I wonder if this is at the direction of P&O to try and distance themselves from the nature of the cruise?
