joedi Posted September 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2006 We're planning a river cruise through Holland and Belgium in the spring, and finding myriad choices. We'd be most appreciative of advice. Our only previous river cruise was with Grand Circle, an excellent experience on the Seine. So: Grand Circle? Others such as Tauck and Uniworld seem to have larger cabins, but that's not as important as itineraries and service. We're thinking late April; is that the best time? Thanks for any help you can offer.
travelsfun Posted September 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2006 We did "Holland in the Springtime" in late April, 2001 with GCT and had a wonderful trip. The tulips were in full bloom, as well as many other beautiful flowers. I see by the latest brochure that the itinerary has changed a bit for 2007 but it should be a great trip. Would recommend the post-trip optional to Bruges also. Will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Dorothy
Ine Posted September 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2006 Late April and 1st week of May are the best weeks to see many tulips and other flowers.
Bill S Posted September 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2006 We did the "Tulips & Windmills" river cruise on the Viking Sky this past April (4/11-4/22) and had great time. It was our first river cruise and we were impressed with Viking. Our itinerary included Amsterdam, Hoorn, Dordrecht, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Bruge, Middleburg, Nijmegan, Arnhem and two other towns which I cannot recall at the moment. The cruise included a visit to the Keukenhof Gardens near Amsterdam and the tulips and other flowers were just outstanding! We thought Viking did a great job- the food was very good, as was the crew and ship. If we were do it again, we would opt for late April again. Ine was a great help to us, too! :)
