Lucaya Info

Brenda, when you get off your ship in Freeport just tell the taxi driver to take you to Port Lucaya. In a shared-taxi van it is $5 each way per person. The Our Lucaya Resort is right across the street and you can access the beaches by following the wide sidewalk between the Sheraton and the Westin. Bar and snack availability by the pools will depend on the season and day of week but there are bars and restaurants at the Port Lucaya Marketplace too.BobK/Orlando

There is a map of Grand Bahama Island at: http://www.gobahama.com/bahamasmap.htm You can see where the cruise port is to the left and the area labeled Lucaya towards the center. The taxi will take you there via the area labeled Freeport, for $5 each way. It's a good bargain but you'll be in a van with 10-12 passengers but it's fine. The Marketplace is indeed across the street from the hotels. The hotels of course are on the ocean side; the Marketplace is along the inner yacht harbour.I would expect when you are there to be a rather slow time tourist wise. Have fun! BobK/Orlando

Yes, there are taxis everywhere around Our Lucaya and the Port Lucaya Marketplace. Also, on your outbound trip your driver may try to get you to commit to being picked up at a certain time and place for the return journey. And that's not a bad idea. For instance, you could tell him to meet you at the traffic circle in front of the Westin at 4pm. My experience with Bahamian taxi drivers are that they are honest and can be relied upon.BobK/Orlando
