LynneM44 Posted September 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2006 We just got back from a W. Med. trip on the Insignia and had some wonderful private tour people (those who went on the ship's tours found them 3 times as expensive and disappointing). Here's who we used: Provence - provence-tours@free.fr (driver Tania was great) - cost was 50 eu/hr. Florence - www.papillonservice.com/index.htm sent someone who was helpful but was young and fairly inexperienced. She did not know much about the area in general when we asked questions about mountains and geography. Cost was 420 eu. for 8 hours. Athens - Cimos Tzagos was incredible and very reasonably priced (230 eu for 9 hours) - tzagos@yahoo.com. He works with spirotours who are also terrific. We had him pick us up the next day to go to the airport because he was so dependable (and 1/3 the price of the ship's transporation - it cost us 45 eu. to go to the airport). I suggest finding a tour driver for the Amalfi coast - we just used a taxi at the dock in Naples and ran into trouble (almost didn't get back to the ship in time). You can contact - http://www.florencetour.com or http://www.papillonservice.com There are many other good recommendations for tour guides on cruisecritic. Some are more expensive than others. Have a great trip, wherever you go.
