sweet_successes Posted October 19, 2006 #26 Share Posted October 19, 2006 I know I have read this and should know having been on the Star but for the life of me I can't find where I read it... If you do a cash advance at the casino on the Star what does it cost? Is it 3%? I will be linking my Visa to my cruise card. Also that still is treated as: a either purchase or added to you bill at the end of the cruise; or do they straight away actually cash advance your Visa card. I remember you need your passport. To do a cash advance they charge 3% - also they will put a hold on that money from your card. It was really interesting on our cruise as when I got a cash advance they put the hold on and it showed up as part of my final account - when hubby got a cash advance they put a hold on his and took the money - my hold was removed a week after the cruise finished. Confusing - i know but I hope i've helped. Rach
aussiedisneyfan Posted October 19, 2006 #27 Share Posted October 19, 2006 Thanks, that has helped. I am reading this as it doesn't show up on your credit card statement as a cash advance.
sweet_successes Posted October 20, 2006 #28 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Thanks, that has helped. I am reading this as it doesn't show up on your credit card statement as a cash advance. That's right - if it shows up - it just shows up as a purchase from P & O Rach
aussiedisneyfan Posted October 20, 2006 #29 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Thanks for the confirmation. If I run out of cash I have an emergency backup.
Tikibird Posted October 20, 2006 #30 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Do you mean if you buy casino chips? So if you do have casino chips and you want to cash them in, do they give you actual cash or do they credit it to your account?
sweet_successes Posted October 20, 2006 #31 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Do you mean if you buy casino chips? So if you do have casino chips and you want to cash them in, do they give you actual cash or do they credit it to your account? Sorry I never gambled in the casino with chips but I do know to get money out for the pokies they just swiped your card and gave you the cash - it was classified as a purchase not a cash advance. Cruiseaholic party animal Posted October 21, 2006 #32 Share Posted October 21, 2006 Hi just recently been on the star, If cruising with kids and not linking to your credit card on the forms given out, be careful my parents only linked both of there cards to the credit card and come a few days into the cruise my parents thought the kids were spending rather a large amount, suprise suprise they were charging to the credit card. My advice is once aboard and there is no que at the purser's desk double check the kids cards are not being charged to the credit card and also ensure the card is restricted to the money already placed on the card (ie no account facility) as this also happened to other people who were travelling with kids and they hadn't but the $300 cash deposit down either for the kids but were still allowed accounts. So I don't know what they were doing!!! So I would just double check at the purser's desk if youre worried about kids spending up a huge bill!!!!!
