Where to stay

We stayed at the Regal Beach Condos. They have two and three bedrooms units, and all have a view of the ocean. We were near the front, and spent a lot of time on the screened patio. It's also right next door to the Marriott. We walked over to buy drinks from their bar (it was right on the water) and rented waverunners from Red Sail which has a location there.

The Regal Beach Condos are owned rather than timeshare, so some of the unites are occupied by owners, so by weekly renters.

Coconut Joe's and Aquabeach restaurant (I think that's the name) are right across the street. We ate at Coconut Joe's several times while we were there.

Your biggest problem will be finding an affordable place in the winter. That's their high season, but if you look around, you'll find what you're looking for. We wanted something with a washer/dryer (which we ended up not using), a kitchen (which we didn't use near enough), somthing right on 7MB, close to shopping, and pretty much in the middle of 7MB. We also wanted 2 or 3 bedrooms since we had our 3 kids with us.

You could also check out Cayman Activity Guide site. They have lots of info and pictures. The only thing is they only support their advertisers (and Regal isn't one of them). I understand why they do that, but just know that going in there. The also only have one advertiser who does stingray city, so that's the one they endorse. The same goes for auto rentals. They also won't let you refer people to other places, so be careful what you post. I think they do have a place where you can talk about other companies that aren't part of their advertisers...but I am not sure about that.

But they do have lots of advertisers (and a lot of nice posters who will help you find what you need through their advertisers) in the condo/hotel field. You may find what you are looking for.

We were very happy at the Regal Beach Club, and we're going back again this winter. But with all the cruise ships, it's getting harder and harder to find a quiet place on 7MB. Actually, that's another reason we chose RBC. They have a guard who patrols the area, and they make sure that the lounge chairs are only used by their guests. They do not rent out chairs to guests, like many of the hotels do. We appreciated that because we were paying a lot to stay there, and we wanted to be able to get a chair when we wanted one. We never had a problem getting one.

Another reason you might check into renting a condo is because the food is expensive there. There were five of us, and we didn't have a meal that wasn't a least $200, and that was at a bar/grill type place. It's even more expensive at the nicer restaurants. We spent a lot of money that week. Next time, we're going to buy more groceries and try and eat more often in the condo. We could have done it a lot cheaper, but we really enjoyed getting out and trying all the different restaurants.
